USC Going After Cal Commits

This should tell you something about USC’s recruiting class.

Today, the Trojans offered four-star tailback Chris Street of JSerra, who is committed to Cal. They also offered three-star wide receiver Casey Filkins of Lake Oswego, Ore., who is also committed to Cal. And they apparently told Filkins he would play tailback.

So they want two Cal recruits. At tailback.

Is this because Graham Harrell thinks tailbacks get too tired if they have more than 10 carries?

Cal’s recruiting class is currently ranked No. 25 by Rivals. USC is ranked No. 63.

  1. The tailback situation is no laughing matter. Carr has told teammates “I was way more tired than Stepp —how come nobody cares about me?” Upon being told of Carr’s statement, Stepp told reporters, “Maybe he was tired, but I was very close to dying —maybe that’s why I’m getting more attention —anybody think about that?”

  2. Cal has had some very good RBs so I don’t know what SW’s point is. Vavae and Stephen will not stick around another year, therefore RB debt is a priority.

  3. Filkins also had WR offers from Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, and Cornell.

Not to desparage Filkins, but this used to be Tailback U. Maybe Filkins is the second coming of Ed Marinaro?

    1. Filkins is projected by CAL at slot. I believe he’s #1 player overall in Oregon. He’s not exactly chopped liver. He’s a verbal to CAL but 50/50 to the tree.

A lot of musical chairs before NSD.

      1. Lake Oswego is about as far from poverty as any place you can find.

  4. And when a real football coach is hired, he’ll start the recruiting class from scratch. So I doubt if those Cal commits will be swayed to a rudderless ship called the Trojans .

  5. Chris Street is a 5’8′, 190 lb. running back with about 4.8 speed. SC passed on a similar player, Jordan Wilmore, 5’8″, 200, 5.0 speed last year.

Casey Wilkins is listed as a RB not a receiver. He is 5’11”, 190 lbs., and has about 4.6 speed.

  6. Hard to fathom why the tailbacks are tired. Tailbacks should never be tired. They are the work horse of the offense. Something is wrong.
