Don’t Blame Struggles On New QB

I don’t know why but a new excuse I hear from some fans is the Air Raid offense is struggling because JT Daniels got hurt and Graham Harrell had to simplify it for Kedon Slovis and Matt Fink.

Does everyone forget Harrell said he installed the entire offense in less than two weeks last spring? That he said the playbook was really small? That Harrell said his offense has 12 pass concepts and play calls are one word? What about the four running plays?

Daniels did not have more time than Slovis or Fink to learn it. And remember Harrell said there wasn’t much difference between Daniels or Slovis.

If someone asked to me to come with excuses for the offense, the loss of Daniels is not going to be too high on that list. I’d put poor use of personnel (Markese Stepp) and shoddy offensive line play higher.

If there is a problem with the offense, point the finger at Harrell before you mention the loss of Daniels.

  3. This isn’t a playbook. Harrell simply made a 12 page poster that said, “Everyone go out for a pass except the fat kids. Fat kids block, the rest of you get open I’ll throw it to you.” It took coach Helton 3 days to finish reading it. Then another 2 days of questioning Harrell on the finer points.
    That’s street football nobody ran the ball because hitting the asphalt when you got tackled would tear your school clothes. (More trouble than I care to mention)
    Three completes was a first down. The trouble, as many have pointed out, isn’t with the schemes it’s with the coach that changes the play from the sidelines.
    I used to think the wristbands offense with those sign holding play callers was sophisticated. That’s until I looked closer at the signs during the Alabama game. I saw a picture of a duck, a Tide detergent box and a Chicago football helmet. It literally said, “ Duck the tide, play like the Cal bears.”
    Don’t look if you don’t want to know

      I have no idea how Coach Helton hypnotized some of these 4* & 5* guys into coming to SC. That’s his little secret. I suppose some of it was convincing the parents.
      He has an extended contract & that usually means asst’s will come in for at least two years. One would wonder why first rate asst’s aren’t lining up.

  5. I ran into Coach Baxter this morning and I asked him when they were going to let Ben Griffiths kick the crap out of the ball and he said we aren’t holding him back.

  6. Forgive the uneducated USC sunshine pumping fan, Scott Wolf. Some don’t even understand the concept of football, they just root for their team, and say anything off the top of their head. They’re the same ones who say, Bozo Helton is one year away from a national championship, let him coach the remainder of his contract 😂😂.
