What’s Going On Behind Scenes At USC-Villanova Game?

So you can read plenty of media reports tonight on the USC-Villanova exhibition game at the Galen Center at 8 p.m.

But I’m more interested in behind the scenes. Villanova athletic director Mark Jackson would love to become the new athletic director at USC. There was a time when Pat Haden described Jackson as an “A+” to athletic dept. employees and built a plaque to honor him outside the tunnel of the McKay Center.

That was before Steve Sarkisian melted down. Jackson strongly recommended Sarkisian and wisely departed for Villanova after the drunk Salute to Troy incident but before Sarkisian was officially fired.

So this basketball game would be a perfect opportunity to spend a few days in L.A., maybe say hi to USC president Carol Folt or former co-worker and current interim A.D. Dave Roberts. And check in on the status of the athletic director search.

      1. …which would be better than the goofy tight jeans Swann wore….or the canary yellow cashmere sweater Haden walked around in….

    1. The Wolfman is too good for the AD job at southern cal! They had Haden the announcer for Notre Dame and Lynn Swann the sideline reporter for NFL games, its time for them to hire a pre-game show contributor! Call Reggie Bush right now! He will continue the southern cal tradition of cheating and getting sanctioned!

      1. BTW, it’s been refreshing to not have to tolerate Pudly’s diuretic mouth. Hey Pudly, when you get released from Terminal Island, stay the bleep away from here.

      1. So when a person likes a comment, and their spouse got a chuckle too does she need her own account? I really don’t see any wisdom in such an arrangement. I mean I could imagine someone complaining on this blog about the time I spend on this blog.
But she had a point, she said we’ve pretty much hit the bottom of the barrel, so most anybody including myself and the guys on this blog would be better than our current coaching staff.

      2. Rialto –I’m pretty sure she’s right [cuz most of us would take a shot at letting the Trojans practice, at least once in a while, as physically as my high school team]……

      1. USC 72
        VILLANOVA 61

SBNation reported that freshman Onyeka Okongwu took the game over offensively and Villanova had no answer for the 6-9 freshman..
They didn’t mention how many points he had and didn’t mention any other SC player because it was Villanova SBsite. But that’s a good start for the team to build on.

      1. I just know we are on track to play them in a regular season game next year also when we will have Evan Mobley aka “The #1 Overall Player in the nation” aka “The future #1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft”.

    1. We should end up with him or Zaire Williams. It’s looking good for both of them right now but we should get one of the two.

  2. Villanova vs the bozo is/was an exhibition game. BFD!!!! Andyain’twinning doesn’t have to worry about bombing an exhibition game.

Why would Villanova play hard and risk injury to its team in the cheezy, Clown U exhibition game?

I’m curious as to why Andyain’twinning hasn’t scheduled Villanova for a regular game that counts? I mean what are the chances that a 6: 9 freshmen would take over a real BB NCAA game.

    #Attendance figures please……….O/U 2500 at Staples…..LOL

The NCAA delivery of the bozo BB Letter of Allegations edges closer.

Sammy those NCAA letters really help with recruiting. I mean, who wants to sign with a Clown BB program facing the death penalty?

    1. Breaking News: Helton had long talk with Villanova players prior to game, explained the risks associated with playing hard —-visited their locker room afterwards and congratulated team for “being careful.”

  3. Someone’s jealous.
    You should be.
USC is in a good position after the last few weeks to sign some good ball players. Zaire Williams and Jalen Green were said to have been headed elsewhere over the summer and now USC might play spoiler. Oh yeah this wont be just a weekend get away either. Jalen Green took an unofficial visit a few weeks ago making it interesting but now it’s looking better.
    Also.
The news just keeps getting better. In football we are on top of the conference right now. You all may think we’re done but as the losses continue it only builds the momentum for Urban Meyer to come to Troy.

      1. Good.
He has no memory of the Wooden era or even Howland era so we seem to be winning with the recruits on which school is the basketball school at the moment.
Now that’s just what it is right now.

    1. It is intellecully insulting and ignorant for any coach to say that coming close is a victory.
It is the height of incompetence. Larry Smith said that about a game once and was fired on the spot. Unfortunately or fortunately as the case might be football is about winning and losing. You cannot make perfume out of stink. Helton should be fired on the spot. How much isulting can we takre?

  6. The President should just go ahead and appointment the UNC Athletic Director who has done a remarkable job at UNC and she knows him. He worked for her there. Just stop the nonsense and get on with it.
