What did this game really accomplish against a bad team?
USC suffered a lot of injuries and it will be key to find out how long Drake Jackson will be out.
USC scored a lot of points but the offense wasn’t great.
But tonight did illustrate Clay Helton refuses to play the best players. Why else have Markese Stepp and Kenan Christon been kept under wraps most of the season.
Here is the injury list:
Talanoa Hufanga: shoulder
Stephen Carr: hamstring
Markese Stepp: ankle
Drake Jackson: ankle
Malik McClain: shoulder
Munir McClain: knee
Carr looked OK after the game. Stepp returned to play. Hufanga looked like he will be out and has had collarbone injuries in the past. Jackson will be the most important.

Over the last 4 years, SC has an average of the 5th ranked recruiting class, including Stepp and Christon. They should be 7-0 this year.

USC got themselves a nice win, 67 —-but I’ve been watching football a long time & I’ve never seen players get hurt with this kind of frequency. So many skill players out –QB’s, Tailbacks, Corners, Safeties. Either Clay is cursed or there’ something about his light practices that is causing our players to get injured. Lots of people say our offensive guys can’t take a hit because they don’t get knocked around in practice. I don’t think that’s it at all. I think, since everybody else practices hitting hard, we can’t take the physicality OTHER team’s bring—even the average ones like Fresno State and Arizona. Hard hitting games must seem like almost alien experiences for kids pampered by Clay. Far from doing these great athletes a favor, he’s jeopardizing their careers. Whatever it is, Clay presides over team’s that suffer more injuries than anyone else. Something is wrong.

And he should stay! When you have a bunch of 4 & 5 star players just itching to get on the field and destroy some hapless Pac12 South team you need someone to weight them down…..

Clay believes in average players and distrusts superstars. It’s gotta have something to do with how he sees himself, yes? I mean that has to be it, right?

Helton needs a contract extension, did you see the Arizona score? And if they beat lowly Colorado, then sign him to a lifetime contract 🙄🙄🙄

I can hear Helton now “ I Love these guys. They showed tonight that the loss to Notre Dame showed how could we are . We beat a team tonight that gave up 50 to Washington at home . Our destiny is clearly in front of us for this team to do something really special and win a Pac 12 championship and a Rose Bowl. This coaching staff is special and its really starting to come together.”

IF Helton runs the table from here he’ll deserve lots of credit. But it will only postpone the inevitable.

Love the back-ups on D; they deserve to play more. Mauga, Echols, Max Williams, Falanaiko etc.. Next man up. For a minute there, I thought Sunny Byrd was gonna have to suit up and play RB, but then KENON CHRISTON!!!!

Munir had already hurt his knee in high school, hope he is OK. To say that it was bad luck for him and his brother to get injured within minutes of each other (not to mention that Malik got hurt right after Drake Jackson got hurt ) is an understatement. Malik looked good on the play that he got hurt: Fast, big, and held the edge! Malik needs to play more.

I ENJOYED reading how SC beat Villanova , an ncaa champion and powerhouse, Andy has prepared them well…now if the injury bug and admin people could be locked up in a dark closet somewhere they might do well for once.

Ms Folt new A,D. news flash that was Arizona not Ohio State Alabama or even Clemson. Hey Gomer nice win it took injuries to slow older 5 star players who you will put back once you play Oregon in two weeks WOW!? Don’t waste number. 23 freshman year let him play against Oregon Arizona State PAC 12 game and let your favorites play in the 🌹 bowl get your ass whipped by some team from the big ten team like Wisconsin or Michigan and watch you go down faster than the Titantic did.
