Why did USC suffer more injuries than Arizona?
You want to blame the Coliseum field? Arizona didn’t suffer all those sprained ankles and other assorted injuries like USC did.
The funniest explanation I heard on twitter was USC was so much more athletic than Arizona, it suffered more injuries. Isn’t the opposite true?
Here’s when you know you are dealing with a homer: They won’t blame the strength-and-conditioning program. The pundits won’t because they either spent the offseason praising the program and would look foolish now or don’t want to offend the strength coaches they might want some access to.
A real coach would conduct an immediate examination. Or probably have changed some things back in the winter and spring.
But not at USC, where everything is just great, players are warriors and the strength coaches are “superstars.”
- The USC-Oregon game on Nov. 2 will kick off at 5 p.m. and be televised by Fox Network.
- Douglas Hodge, the former PIMCO CEO, plead guilty and did not deny prosecutors could show he paid six-figure bribes to USC coaches and officials to have his daughter admitted to the school as a soccer player and his son admitted as a football recruit. He will be sentened Jan. 22.
- Martin Fox, who allegedly acted as a middle man for “Varsity Blues” mastermind Rick Singer, will plead guilty to racketeering.

Holgorsen looked to back of the room where AD Chris Pezman sat. “They can’t fine me, right?”
Pezman: “I don’t think so.”#Coogs had season-high 8 penalties vs. #Wazzu
I do think the field has something to do with the injuries. After all the same thing is happening at Santa Anita after the record rains. We had a summer full of construction equipment on the field. I noticed that the Trojans were coming up with very green grass stains on their uniforms. Maybe the color of the grass had something to do with it.
Actually there is a simple explanation that has to do with cleats in the grass. The other team had different cleat lengths. USC used to bring several sets of footwear to a game just to deal with field conditions. My guess is the coaching staff doesn’t know this.
Some injuries were cause by dirty tricks by AZ. Stepp was blasted on his ankle by a would be tackler. Carr was running when he pulled up lame. (maybe conditioning but they are in better shape over all this year)
I wouldn’t go so far as to say strength and conditioning had a hand in the injuries, there are not a whole lot of exercises that routinely drop you on your shoulders.

With Steppes injury, it was just a helmet hit on his ankle. I saw the hit with my binoculars. No weight training could do anything about that. Bot were going full force and the tackler just went low to knock Steepes off his feet. If he doesn’t Steppes scores.

Injuries happen for various reasons: freak accidents, bad conditioning, bad technique while tackling, and, my favorite, WOMEN WEAKEN LEGS- especially hamstrings.
