USC coach Clay Helton said defensive end Christian Rector and cornerback Chris Steele are “right on the cusp” of returning from ankle injuries.
Helton said offensive tackle Drew Richmond just wasn’t feeling great, wasn’t feeling like himself. Redshirt freshman Liam Jimmons started and played all but three series.
Helton said wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown‘s physicality reminds im of Robert Woods.
Helton praised the team’s attitude.
“I just like the finish of our team,” he said. “They have a never-say-die attitude and a Fight On attitude.”
Helton said USC’s decision to give the team Saturday and Sunday was because of NCAA rules mandating meeting and practice time.
It’s pretty clear from CH’s comment re: the team’s mental toughness that he’s not the source of it. He may as well have said: “Where the hell did all this team’s mental toughness come from? I can’t believe it, but man, I’m glad we have it.”
Similarly, CH’s proud declaration that CP is (finally) picking up schemes from pro DCs was an admission that Clancy’s just along for the ride at USC, and Clay doesn’t expect (or demand) much from his assistants. I tell you, this guy is a gem. Somebody ought to do him a favor and hire a PR firm to keep him from stepping on his dick every time he opens his mouth.

You gotta like Jimmons for taking out an idiot Washington State fan 2 years ago when they stormed the field before the end of the game.

How is he a redshirt freshman if that WSU game was two years ago?

When you look at the history of USC, the story of how they got their name stands out. “They fought like Trojans,”’was a newspaper’s headline. So why is anyone surprised that the team is fighting through the problems. They are Trojans.
Just know Helton’s surprise is no surprise to anyone; he isn’t the leader of men. When he tried to lead the players in fighting, he didn’t have their respect, someone else is leading this. My guess is Pudly has been leading this surge of fighting through problems. Had anyone heard from him since this started? See I make my point. (Anonymously)

“Fight like a Trojan.”?!
The Greeks destroyed Troy, massacred all the drunk/sober Trojan males and sold the Trojan women and children into slavery.
Why don’t the bozo call themselves the USC Custer’s Last Stand or the Frenchies@Agincourt?

Trojans were Greeks, too, genius. You sound definitely primed to be an also-ran again this year, just like your worldbeating team. lol.

And according to (admittedly self-congratulatory myth) the Trojans were the founders of Rome…so the other Greeks got their’s (eventually)!

The Trojans were natives of Anatolia in modern day Turkey. They weren’t Greek. http://historyrocket.com/Ancient-Greece/Greek-mythology/Who-Were-The-Trojans-In-Greek-Mythology.html

James —Aeneas, as you know, escapes Troy and is the founder of Rome. Aeneas is the first of the classical heroes to believe in “mercy to the fallen enemy.” He acts on this belief throughout Virgil’s Aeneid —showing compassion to those he’s defeated in battle. He’s even willing to spare the life of his great enemy, Turnus, until he sees a sign that Turnus has disrespected a Roman citizen…..and then he brutally slays Turnus….

Excellent detail (recalled the general story but not the “mercy” part!)…
Yes, our friend Owns should be aware…although this year when that day comes, who knows?!

owns, you should say thank you for the history lessons, as in “Thank you sir, may I have another.”

I didn’t write the headline I just reported the legend. But shall look at the lineage of the Mascot of the University of California Southern Branch.known originally as Southern Cal? We all know that Cal’s mascot is a bear and Southern branch needed to be heard too. They weren’t just any type bear they grizzly bears. (A fierce mascot no doubt) however the name was changed a few years later to an old English form of bear commonly used in children’s fables.
As a younger man I wondered why my parents called your colors baby blue and gold. Your school, Owns, is the baby brother of Cal Berkley and with the colors and mascot of the big brother’s baby clothing.
My job here is done.

James — Yeah, the vengeance part of the story might wind up being wishful thinking unless Helton can get our troops as pumped up as the bruins…..

Yes…every time Arturo (and I mostly, though not entirely, agree with his point) comments on running back workloads all I can think of is: J. Kelley, November 17, 2018…if it’s (it must be) a Swann song, and if he wants it to be a sweet sounding one (more Jimmy Page Swan Song)…regardless, great job on your part setting that down (the lesser known branch/companion of the Odyssey)…

James — Helton can prove he really gets the warrior concept by giving us a “Shane” finale: he takes out the bad guys —-ALL of them —-and, then, voluntarily leaves town and rides off into the sunset slumped over in his saddle….

I’m happy with Slovis’s development, but please…this kid is throwing to 3 guys who will be playing Sunday, and one a legit Top 10 pick in St. Brown.

SCooter,
What do you mean by, “SC gave the team Saturday and Sunday”? Did you mean days off, practice, or just watch film?

The SCooter must have sent this post in from the corner stool in the pub. As he does with many of his posts.
