Jack Yary Decommits From USC

Tight end Jack Yary, the son of USC legendary offensive lineman Ron Yary, decommitted on Sunday night.

The irony here is Ron Yary was perfectly happy to see his son go to USC.

But Jack Yary also saw the Air Raid offense does not exactly include a tight end. USC’s tight ends have caught 13 passes this season. The rest of the team has caught 252 passes. Any tight end would be crazy to come to USC . . . until they find out who the new coach is going to be.

I would not completely write off Yary until a new coach is hired and meets with him.

  1. Does not make sense that an offense heavily slanted to passing does not include active tight ends. What’s with that Texas Harrell?

Dream: That sucla upsets Utah (21 point underdogs seldom win, so that is the dream part), and then sucla meets SC to determine who will play Oregon for the Rose Bowl.

  2. Just for a morning exercise I compiled this list for your perusal.
Winning percentages for previous Head Coaches (Not named Carroll)

    Tollner:
    26-21-1 .500%

    Smith:
    44-25-3 .611%

    Robinson II:
    37-60 .566%

    Hackett:
    19-18 .513%

    Helton: status as of 11-11-19
    38-21 .644%

Helton’s win percentage is better than the four preceding Carroll, why…does it feel as though he is worse than the others ?

    1. Really in this case because his numbers are skewed by happy mistakes. Sam Darnold for instance would have never seen a moment of playing time if Helton had his way. If you took the five best linemen in the country and put them in a ballet chorus line, Helton wouldn’t see them.
Time and again he has used the wrong player for a position and has been lucky. It reminds me of the citizenry of Halloween town making Christmas presents. Just because you can smash a rat with a sledge hammer to make hat doesn’t mean anyone will wear the hat.

      1. Rialto…
I read and enjoy your posts, the intent of my question was an attempt to categorize his deficiencies as seen by those here. Bones has to have ammunition to kiss Helton goodbye.
My Point, P. J. Fleck is currently 21-13 .617% and the CFB world is drooling over him.

    2. It’s a lot of things

Sloppy play time and time again
Being blown away by good teams time and time again
Winning ugly and lucky a lot
Failure to play the right kids his whole tenure
      Horrid coaching every game
Gomer’s post game pressers and Sunday night conference calls that are both pathetic and comedic
And if you take away Darnold’s 2 years, look at Gomers record

    3. Why does Helton feel worse than Tollner, Smith, Robinson II and Hackett?
Well, there wasn’t internet back then. And social media was not as prevalent. Now, we can get news almost as it happens, and everybody has an immediate opinion about things. People have less patience these days, and on blogs posters are anonymous and hence will write anything that pops into their head, knowing there will be no retribution.

Besides, all had their day– the 1985 team won a Rose Bowl (wasn’t that Tollner?); Smith got to No. 2 in 1988 for a brief visit, won a Rose Bowl with the 1990 team; Robbie won a Rose Bowl in 1995; and Hackett finally beat sucla in 1999. And our boy Helton won a Rose Bowl with the 2016 team.

      1. From your post, it appears that 3 Rose Bowl Victories from 1983 thru 2000
17 years And another from 2009 thru 2019 10 years are a happy place for you. Are you suggesting we as fans and Alums be accepting of the mid level mediocre play ? You also failed to mention the lost Bowl games 3 of the 4 had, Hackett never qualified for a Bowl.

    4. Because he’s wasted more talent than all of those other previous coaches and one Rosebow winl. His team’s have been blown out in 16 games during his tenure against top 10 teams. Thats why he’s selling we try hard we can win the Pac 12 south crap. Because he has not a clue what he is doing too many penalties and not enough fundamentals. Any decent coach would have only 2 losses with this team right now. A great coach could have them at one loss or even undefeated. Clay strives for mediocrity and tries to sell you the big picture of championships. It’s old tiredsome and most of us fans want him gone already before he further damages the program and this years recruiting class.

  3. If Helton were a Disney movie his plot would be about an affable guy who manages to bungle his way into a million dollar business. The guy doesn’t know what right ends are or what they do. He thinks the term refers to the bum huggers he wore at the disco in the 80s. Recently he was heard on the sidelines yelling “put in those extra tackles who are eligible.”
On a funny sidenote, I heard Helton shuns pork rinds because he heard they were made out of pig skins. He has also heard the term pigskin as reference to a football. He said, “I don’t like the taste of footballs being jammed in my mouth, so I don’t eat pork rinds.”

  4. Factor……its the direction of the program…….given one or two more recruiting classes……..the numbers will look quite a bit different. The only thing that has covered il Numb Brain up has been the talent difference that in most cases was recruited many years ago under different circumstances. After Jackson etc. leaves on our line its going to be open season. If Helton stays what we need to recruit is QB’s and RB’s…..we’ll need about five every season. Lots of DB’s because our pass rush will/has not existed.

      1. Yes, gt —and with Helton’s “new & improved” strength and conditioning program —they had to be!
