With Jack Yary’s decommitment, USC’s recruiting class is now ranked No. 77 by 247 Sports and No. 71 by Rivals.
USC has 10 commitments. 10 commitments!
When I say Clay Helton needs to be fired now, this is a pretty big reason. Someone needs to be out there on the recruiting trail telling prospects not to sign early or wait for the new coach to be hired.
Helton might be hurt by the speculation about his job the past 12 months, but that is why he should have been fired last year. This is by far the worst class USC ever produced at this point of the season.
The sooner Helton’s fate is addressed, the better, because I already know of at least two recruits who will flip their commitment . . . if the right coach is hired, i.e. Urban Meyer.
- Here’s an article from the Daily Trojan today on the tragic number of students who died this semester.
“On Sunday, Chief Health Officer Sarah Van Orman confirmed to the Daily Trojan that at least eight students have died in the last three months.”
Gomer most likely won’t be canned until after the ucla game and I can see him being allowed to coach the bowl game.
If this happens Scott is right, this recruiting class will be awful.
If Bohn saw any of the ASU game he HAS to know that Gomer is an incompetent boob

Just like Colorado game. Just like the Western Michigan game. The beat goes on. Helton was never a good coach, but he has gotten worse over time.

Just awful news about the student deaths. This is something that the university can really help with, assuming the right leadership and vision are in place, and that it becomes the priority of the administration.

Look at the bright side: Clay knows he’s gone —he’s not recruiting.

Oh he’s recruiting, it just doesn’t look like he is

Ha! [I guess you could say the same thing about his coaching]….

I’m not sure when Bohn officially starts as the AD, but things are eerily quite. Putting everything in a holding pattern until the season’s end is foolish given the upcoming recruiting deadline and the time required to hire a new coach. Ideally, there’s a confidential search in process and discussions will commence very soon, if they haven’t already.

Mora was fired after losing to USC for the 3rd year in a row (18th Nov. 2017)…an interim coached the bruins against Cal and a bowl against KS St. Helton will walk in the same manner as well as noted due to the impact his ineptitude in doing to the recruiting players and the abandonment by season ticket holders – football supports all the rest but not now and Bohn is a money guy.

Alv —Another money guy who pretends to be a virtue guy? Sounds good to me.

Cannot be a “money guy” (presumably someone who has money and/or is involved with money – like an AD for whom part of the job is raising money) and be virtuous?
Never knew that. Patently untrue.

“Here’s a stat for Mike Bohn,” reads the teaser. I thought Scott was talking about the number of student deaths, but no, it was far more important than that, it was the number of commits the football team has.
It is surprising to me about the number of young people dying. And of the 8 this year, they claim 3 were suicides, so that means the other 5 were by accident or natural health causes. And since there were 12 such deaths in 2016, I guess the 8 so far this year are not that far off the norm
I know kids are under more pressure today than in my day, and with their addiction to their mechanical toys, they are more isolated from real human contact than their parents were, so whether they know it or not, that would adversely affect their mental health.
And out of 40,000 or so students, an actuary table or the law of averages dictates that some people will die every year, despite being only 18-22.

A % of these tragic outcomes can be traced to the culture they have invested heavily in as well as the parent(s) mores that raised them. The latest ‘impact’ being the hysterical global warming hoax with doomsday 10-12 years or whatever 2 digit number, the world has left.
No faith in truth – life is meaningless.

Alv — very nicely stated. [I wonder if either side realizes that their attempt to “energize their bases” for the year leading up to the election is sure to lead to more demoralization and violence]…

Although your comment about CCH’s looking like he’s not coaching is pretty darn funny.

In 1983, I sat in the Minneapolis Metrodome and watched Nebraska roll Minnesota 83-0. On one play, Irving Fryar split out about 20 yards to the left and not only did no Gopher D-Back bother to go with him, no coaches noticed to call Time Out. He could have literally walked in from about 40 yards, but opted to jog anyways. Enter Lou Holtz in 1984. In early 1985, Minnesota is throwing 4 times into the End Zone in the final 2 minutes to try to take a lead over eventually National Champion Oklahoma. Final was 7-13. Recruiting was important, but Holtz got that program turned around early in year 2. Watching USC Coaching the past couple of years is like watching the 83 Gophers.
