QUARTERBACK
I like the way Kedon Slovis takes hits and comes back to the game after leaving. Matt Fink saved Clay Helton another time even though he could have been starting at another school.
Grade: B+
RUNNING BACK
Kenan Christon was way better as a receiver than a runner but some of that was the offensive line’s doing.
Grade: C
WIDE RECEIVER
USC has good receivers but the Arizona State defense was atrocious in the first half. It’s amazing USC doesn’t get more offensive production out of these guys.
Grade: B
OFFENSIVE LINE
What do you know you will get before the game besides a false start? That’s the only consistent aspect of this group. On the bright side, Slovis was sacked only once.
Grade: C-
DEFENSIVE LINE
Christian Rector made the game-saving interception and Drake Jackson had six tackles. But too many games, the interior guys just take up space and then draw lavish praise afterward for doing little.
Grade: C+
LINEBACKERS
Has USC missed Palaie Gaoteote been missed? John Houston had nine tackles and Kana’i Mauga added eight. The fact is Clancy Pendergast mishandled this position all season by playing Houston out of position.
Grade: C
DEFENSIVE BACK
Let’s not forget ASU QB Joey Yellen never threw a college pass before. Isaac Taylor-Stuart gave up a couple TD passes. Olaijah Griffin had a couple penalties. Chris Steele gave up a TD pass. Not a banner day.
Grade: D+
SPECIAL TEAMS
I’m not going to even evaluate anything other than kickoffs. USC knew it had a major problem going into the game and did not fix or adjust. Do a sky kick! And how many false starts can special teams have?
Grade: F
COACHING
What other team puts up 28 points in one quarter and 3 the rest of the game? Then there are the penalties. And the kickoffs. What a train wreck for Mike Bohn to evaluate.
Grade: F
This isn’t hard for Bohn to evaluate. He knows this is amateur hour, he’s got a professional down the street at Fox, make the deal and lets move on from Bozo

factor13 —Tell me if I’m taking this too far but I’d kinda like the Times’ sportswriters to be tied to chairs with their eyes pried open when Urban Meyer is announced…..

Nice. Brings to mind a multiple choice question: Who is scariest and/or most disturbing?
a) Bozo
b) Pennywise
c) Krustee
d) Neighborhood ice cream truck driver
e) Clay

I just showed my own ineptitude
Why not add one more choice (Ronald McDonald…ICP…etc) to put Clay where he belongs (and establish a tangent to Woofie’s “grade” post)?
At least I’m consistent with the correct answer!

As in F
Come to think of it, there are other reasons to do F that…

karma — I like how fast you selected “E” in James’ multiple choice quiz. Assuming you’re only checking in every 5 minutes or so —it appears it took you roughly 1 second to come up with the right answer…….

You left out Pogo the clown; that sic fuc John Wayne Gacey. He’s the scariest one out of all of them. That you left out from your list above and he became a nightmare to 36 of his victims.

Bones next move, he and Luke Fickell with look at the game film to find the mistakes and make corrections…..have you ever heard that before ?

Scott is always very negative but in this case, he’s got it just about right as well as the big picture that Helton must go. I came into the season with an open mind on Helton, even though I would have preferred he was gone, but it’s now very clear that he and USC need to move on and the sooner the better for everyone.

I just have to wonder….if the Caruso has any smarts, does he think Jerry Jones would pass on a head coach almost handed to him like Bill Belichick.
That’s what our situation is…Caruso made his money by someone or he making the right decisions, being astute and seeing the future ROI.
Caruso, Bones and President. Folt need to set aside emotions and put your Money Making Caps on “For The Good of the University”
All bets are off if Meyer says….you gotta be kidding me, SC, thanks, but no thanks !

I have a new game that I like to play with my next door neighbors. It goes like this —as soon as Scott posts the game grades, I invite them over, swear to them on a bible I haven’t peeked at the grades …and then bet $1000 that the “coaching” grade will be an “F.”

What are you complaining about….At least he’s consistent.

Why don’t you go double or nothing with special teams. Cash in while your at it! You can’t lose it’s a lock.

Maybe Scott has trouble posting the same as everyone else. Several times my replies don’t post and then boom they appear all up jumbled and around turned. bad too there isn’t an edit button.

I wish I had teachers as soft as these grades indicate. The team tanked for 75% of the game… how is it that anyone has a passing grade unless…Oh I get it… they won so they get a pass for the win. Nice…maybe it’s like lethal injection cocktail you can’t use the drugs if they’re out dated it might kill the guy o.0

QB’s A- The Slovis INT was an arm punt. Bad decision, but an arm punt
RB B+. At 180 lbs, gonna struggle to slow down a DL/LB blitzer. ASU was
about #20 nationally in run defense. All of our RB’s are doing great as receivers. On KC’s fumble, he took a helmet to helmet hit which the zebra’s did not want to call, as it would have negated a turnover to ASU (though they had no problem reversing our INT due to “roughing the passer”)
WR A- I think Vaughs had his one-per-game key drop. Otherwise, the unit was superb. I disagree with the moderator–300 ypg against scheming defenses is pretty good production from the receiving corps.
OL C due to penalties.
Defense? Remember ASU was held to about 300 total yards (even if they were all gained in qtrs 2,3,4)
DL/LB A on run, C on pass. Held Benjamin to under 100, which was the plan
DB’s C- A couple of INT’s. The game plan left them in man, frequently with only 1 safety deep. Several of ASU’s better gains came with our Safety blitzing.
You’re harsh, Mr Wolf.
