The USC Nightmare Scenario

The Pac-12 probably thought it did USC a favor when it gave the Trojans a bye week before the conference championship game.

But if USC beats UCLA and Utah beats Arizona on Saturday, the Utes still have one more game left vs. Colorado. They will be heavily favored but if Utah lost, USC would win the Pac-12 South.

Does this give Mike Bohn any cause for pause?

Would he hesitate if he thought USC might win the Pac-12 South? At least for a week?

Hopefully not. But this is why I advocated making a change after the Oregon game. Forget about the weak opponents left on the schedule or the Pac-12 implications. Just get it done and find a new coach.

Now there is at least the possibility of something happening that might delay the process.

  1. Bohn has to make the change very soon to salvage recruiting, which is ranked in the 70s.

There is no uncertainty about Helton and his ability to coach a team. No one in college football thinks he should be HC of SC. So why postpone the inevitable.

And the chance of Utah losing to either Arizona or Colorado is extremely low.

  2. Hey everyone. Serious comment here. I got carried away making up fake accounts to post as other people. I apologize to everyone, especially Michael Guarino, if my childishness hurt this blog. I made up a fake one for myself to make it look like I was also being subjected to the same petty antics. And for those of you who want to say Pudly did this, he didn’t. It was entirely me. I took playful kidding too far. So sorry about that and I hope everyone who left comes back.

    1. You claimed to Michael Guarino that you weren’t the impostor yesterday.

Why would you do this? We are a bunch of guys who like to share thoughts and commiserate about SC football.

We really don’t need trolls, much less this.

      1. Pudly is a weirdo who is obsessed with hating Scott Wolf, that’s why. Now he’s driven Mike off the board.

      1. What is there to say now, owns? You represent people whom you are not, you lie about it, you make homophobic remarks, you belittle Trojan players who get injured, the list goes on.

        Factually correct statements.

But all you have is “yawn”. Brilliant comeback as always.

  3. i can still hear Bohn’s words echoing: what does Hell-TON have to do??

    “Finish strong”
    “Finish strong”
    “Finish strong”

Bohn set the conditions, Hell-TON somehow is rallying to save his job! remarkable!!

      1. no way they could beat UT. that’s besides the point….Hel-TON wins out, he keeps job, especially if he wins bowl game. likely SC faces a much less talented team in bowl game.

  4. Bohn cannot be fooled by the”beat down ” of Cal. They are the weakest team in their division (even with ref aided win over WSU) I am sure if a country bumpkin like myself can see that USC had a good day against a bad team, Bohn can see it too. I wouldn’t put it past Cal to go shopping for a real coach today.
Even if we cream UCLA the whole of Helton’s tenure is against him. He wouldn’t be fired for just a one game mistske, he’s up for the 39 &21 record. He’s toast against opponents deemed worthy of national attention. He’s been out coached and shown his ass almost every time his team took the field. If you remove the Darnold wins, the picture is much more accurate. Without Darnold the win loss record is almost reversed and USC was soundly defeated by quality opponents in the Darnold era all but one time.
Clay Helton’s ability would not make a pimple on a real coach’s butt. He plays favorites, is a poor recruiter and couldn’t evaluate a talent if he saw it. He recruited Darnold as a linebacker and had him as a distant second to Browne. (Only because the projected backup got hurt) Helton started Carr over Christon. He had Pittman on the sidelines for two years. The list goes on. If Bohn does his homework Helton is toast. If he doesn’t USC will play in an empty house next season.

  5. It goes like this. Thank you Clay for your dedication to USC but we want to go in a different direction. The BOT, USC administration and the fanbase want to take the program to the next level and want a coaching team that has proven they can do that. We feel we gave you every chance to accomplish that while you were here. Here is your buyout check for 7 million.

    1. Contrary to popular belief, they don’t buy out contracts like that. He just remains on the payroll through the end of it, same as he would if he had retained the job.
