  1. UCLA is horrible, but they can put a competitive game together every now and then. The big question is, like I mention week after week, do the Bruins have some athletes who can cover the Trojans receivers? It doesn’t take much to win the line of scrimmage against USC, it’s just that the PAC 12 is a weak finesse conference, so it doesn’t appear that way. Oregon stands out, because they’re a tough physical team, which is why they beat down SC. If you’re an informed, knowledgeable athletic director, then the wins Clay Helton have accumulated, isn’t going to fool anyone.

    1. The question is: will Chip drop 8 like BYU and UW did and contain USC’s superior WRs or be stupid like Coffee Boy and let St. Brown, Vaughns and the rest of the receiver corp run rings around the ruin single coverage DBs and post them up on jump ball passes?

      1. Chip’s team is 111 out of 130 teams in scoring defense – giving up almost 34 points per game. This one should be easy, but it probably won’t be.

    1. You’re not really this dumb, are you? It’s set at whatever it takes so there are equal bets for each team. Sometimes that results in half points, which is actually better. This way there aren’t any pushes.

  2. As noted – in today’s Times – “A lot of our guys had their minds set on the Pac-12 championship after this week,” Thompson-Robinson said, “and I think that’s really what it was. We were looking too far ahead instead of focusing on the task at hand, so I think I now see it as a very nhumbling moment for our team.”

Is that an indelible mark of the ‘gutty little bruin’ mindset or what?

      1. More like the last 50 years since he graduated… 5 decades of underachievement, choking and complete humiliations and annihilations like last night’s Mountain Meadow Massacre.

      2. They’ve had two ‘glimmers’ – 1975 under Vermeil and u nder Toledo back in 1998 when they almost got to the inaugural FBS. Best letter to the editor in the Times after the Miami loss was “The Bruins had two planes ready to depart for Miami …. the first one got off successfully but the 2nd Cessna…”

They not only lost to Miami but also to WI in the Rose Bowl….and that’s the last time they’ve played in the Rose Bowl Game – 21 years ago this Janaury

    1. The rivalry game doesn’t mean shit (other than bragging right and a bell) to UCLA w/o a victory in Utah – Utah 49 – UCLA 3.

DTR has his head up his rectum if he thinks the Bruins took the Utes lightly. What actually happened was DTR choka, choka, choka choked in the RedZone.

He had one of his lousy, erratic games that spooked the team. The Bruins ran out gas after the classic DTR retreat and fumble that Utah cashed in for a TD and a 21 – 3 lead.

Truly, DTR needs to move on. UCLA needs a savvy QB w/o back up lights.

      1. 49-3 loss is a lot more than a deficient performance by the QB. And actually he did pretty well, considering the O-line disappeared and allowed something like 10 sacks.

      2. Owns, You can have Chuck n Duck. After what Slovis has shown this season, I expect JTD to be in the transfer portal sometime after this season

      3. The play calling was baffling. They kept throwing on first down instead of using their best running back since Deshaun Foster to set up 2nd and manageable. And they kept running this counter play that never fooled Utah.

    2. It likely started Nov 19, 1983, rusoviet.
      Let me explain.

The Bruins were a very good team in 1982,
but the Trojans were still a tad better. We were on probation. Tinsley leads an epic 4th Qtr drive and we punch it in at the North endzone on the last play in regulation. Instead of kicking the game tying EXP with no time remaining on the clock, JR chose to go for 2 and the win. The good guys were repelled at the LOS and UCLA won. A strong UW team lost inexplicably against WSU that night and a 9-1 ASU team–with the RB birth on the line–choked against a weak UA team the next week.

Had JR gone for the tye, ASU or UW l would have gone to the Rose Bowl as the Bruins would have been 5-1-2 and held no tye-breaker. The Bruins backed into the RB in spectacular fashion.

      In 1983,
UCLA came to the coliseum against a probation era, Tollner-led 4-5-1 USC. We stunk. So did the bruins.

UW under James was just hitting stride, and with a victory against a terrrible WSU team that night, UW would go to the Rose Bowl.
The Bruins at 5-4-1 were not in the discussion, but we played anyway.
As victory became imminent for the bruins, their band started playing
a syncopated beat and the whole UCLA section chanted,
“the Rose BOWL we won’t GO and NEITHER will you.”
They chanted it over and over and over again.
      I wanted to puke.

UCLA had graduted all their talent in 1982, and played poorly. Yes, they were lead by a fifth year walk-on named Neuheisel. Well, at 6-4-1 they needed a miracle and the miracle happened. ASU folded, UA folded, and a mediocre WSU team beat UW in the Apple cup, and the 6-4-1 bruins backed into another Rose Bowl.

  3. They lose 49-3, and the daily bruin reporter writes:

“Coach Chip Kelly said he was pleased with the way the offense sustained drives against the third-ranked total defense in the nation”

chipper needs a reality check. As in “You lost 49-3. You shouldn’t be pleased with anything.”
