Clay Helton said tonight USC will file for an NFL draft evaluation on junior wide receiver Tyler Vaughns. I already consider him gone.
Vavae Malepeai looks like he will play vs. UCLA. Helton said offensive coordinator Graham Harrell is going to be a star in the coaching profession. Sure!
USC is ranked No. 23 in the College Football Playoff. And they were discussed in the post-rankings teleconference.
Is Mike Bohn going to have to fire a coach in the CFP rankings? Probably.

If CCH could land on his feet at FSU, I’d see it as a win-win.
Make it happen. The CFB history at FSU is a little less glorious than USC.
Those of us with a 50+ year passion for USC academics and sports understand that the current iteration is not acceptable. The Standard is not being met.
CCH is a great guy and a fine coach. (Check out my other posts.)
He deserves another chance in D1 football and will be duly rewarded.
The High School coaches and recruits who help build the USC brand and the knowledgeable USC former football players and fans know that the USC standard is not being met. The indictments have been logged repeatedly on this site for a few years. I think both parties will be better off Monday evening.

USC has been ranked in and out of CFP ranking like a yo-yo…shameful! This is an extremely talented team with the right coaching I believe could have even attained a top 10 ranking. Helton’s time is done and he needs to go.

Gonna need to start recruiting better O-line and D-line talent repeatedly to get to the top 10. I like Tufele, Tuipulotu, Drake J…Pili. But every year we need a class like that.
I recall many years ago when we got Mama, Viane, etc etc for the O-line. That was about the last time we had a decent O-line recruit. None of them did well at the NFL level due to poor O-line coaching.
Had a few off years with the LB recruiting–though Mauga and Gaoteote (and maybe Goforth and Echols) might yet surprise.
I still like Drevno for the O-line and feel he can do the job–unless someone has a better option.

Moving on as a Junior is only a good idea if your team used you well. Think what a new coach would do for our NFL bound players. Looking at last year’s group of NFL flops was eye opening. Place another Thanks Helton here.

Clay needs to go into the coaching wilderness for few years at a mid level program and prove that he can turn a program around. He hasnt defined himself as a coordinator with a particular expertise as a defensive or offensive guru. He was given a mercedes as a high schooler.
I will give him credit that he recruited a great freshman class that is contributing. You know Urban is the kind of coach like Saban that could keep someone Clay in some capacity i.e. Fickell. He was tough on Fickell too.

JuJu was ready–even if he was only 20 years old (!!!)–to go to the NFL.
Same with Woods, Marqise, etc. I’ve been hoping that Tyler would stay one more year and bulk up a bit. Otherwise, he has good hands (one drop per game is usual) and runs great patterns. Colbert could advise Tyler on his draft potential. Next years WR crew (assuming no TRFs): Bru, Ford, Drake, Amon Ra is already prodigious, but I’d like Tyler to stay.
The 2018 class was a vaunted recruiting class 4 years prior, and none have distinguished themselves so far in the NFL. None will. Not their fault. CCH cursed them with a long line of inferior assistant coaches.

SC should not be ranked. That only gives more credence to Helton. If Vaughns goes, he will go as a second or third round selection. My opinion is that he is too cavaliar with the ball. Then sometimes he is just out of this world. Inconsistency on concentration of the ball.
