USC Morning Buzz: Sultan McCullough Update

Here’s an update on former USC tailback Sultan McCullough, who is still in the hospital since being in a serious car accident on April 5 in Monrovia.

He has had pins placed in his knees and has undergone several skin grafts on his legs and remains in pain. He has not started walking yet but is expected to once the pins are removed and he begins physical therapy. He is also recovering from a broken shoulder.

One positive is he is doing well mentally. He has also heard from his teammates and other former USC players since the accident who have offered their support.

Along with Obea Moore, he led his team to a CIF State title in the 4×100 relay and was favored to win the state title in the sprint events when he pulled up in the 100 final.[3][4] His team still holds the meet record at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational.”

  3. He could run and run fast. I’m sorry he got into a car accident. Those are not fun, no matter how minor they are. God’s speed on healing 100%.

    1. Fantastic to hear Sultan is expected to walk again; I recall the early reports on his condition were not so optimistic. And it is great that his former teammates are supporting him.

      3. I once read that Sultan ran a 10.03 100M. That won’t win a final, but it will place you in one.

      Wiki page..” McCullough played for the Pasadena City Lancers of Pasadena City College in 1994, recording 725 yards and six touchdowns in seven games.[1] He played for the El Camino Junior College Warriors in 1995, rushing for 1,090 yards and 12 touchdowns in ten games with 8.4 yards per carry.[1]

      McCullough was a two-year for the Oregon Ducks of the University of Oregon from 1996 to 1997. He set a school record for rushing touchdowns by scoring fifteen in seven games in 1996, earning honorable mention All-Pac-10 accolades. He recorded 1,411 rushing yards on 267 carries his senior year in 1997. McCullough also scored a 93-yard return for a touchdown on the first kickoff of the Ducks’ 1997 season.[1]”

    McCullough was allegedly racing another vehicle just south of Duarte Road when he lost control of his vehicle and hit the SUV, which was not involved in the race.

    The driver of the SUV was able to avoid a head-on collision when he saw the Mustang coming at him. McCullough was thrown from his vehicle.

    McCullough and the driver of the SUV were both hospitalized. According to KTLA 5, which did not identify him by name, the driver of the Mustang was transported with “life-threatening injuries” and has undergone several surgeries.
