Talanoa Hufanga

He won the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Award and he won’t have to play another game for Clay Helton if he doesn’t want to.

Justin Herbert

The Chargers QB set an NFL record for TD passes by a rookie (28). He also became the first NFL rookie to throw for more than 4,000 yards and more than 25 TDs. By the way, you wouldn’t have known it from the way he played against USC last year.

Andy Enfield

Does anyone give an iota about what he’s been up to? OK, maybe this week now that football is over.

USC

It competes in a conference where Jedd the Fisch gets hired at Arizona and Karl Dorrell can be the coach of the year. It must be nice to always be in your slippers like USC.

LOSERS

Carol Folt

She tried to tweet yesterday that seven female USC graduates were elected to Congress and most of the responses were, “Fire Clay Helton!”

He’s either too powerless or too dumb to make a coaching change.

Did he really think no one would notice he ranked USC 11 spots ahead of Oregon in the coaches’ poll? Was he that impressed with his come-from-behind victories over Arizona State, Arizona and UCLA?

So in the pre-Oregon game hype video, they created a fake Los Angeles Times front page (pictured below). But for some reason, they used an actual New York Times. Two clues: The upper left says, “All the News That’s Fit to Print.” Oh, and the page behind the front page actually says, “The New York Times.”

What . . . is . . . going . . . on?

  1. With all the mis-spellings and grammatical errors that the Blogger consistently makes on this blog, the fact he had eagle-eyes to catch the two clues in the photo is…mind – boggling.

True story, gt: Every day Terry Schofield (who went on to be Wooden’s best 6th man at UCLA) and Michael Novacek (who went on to be Curator at the American Museum of Natural History, New York) and me (the only failure of the group) would ask if we see the first reel of “Lassie Come Home” again…. where Lassie tears June Lockhart’s dress off.
        Finally our teacher (who I think probably had mental problems based on the fact she demanded we not wear the color yellow on Thursdays) marched the entire class out on to Gateway Boulevard and left us there — and was fired the next day.

  2. Here’s the thing with USC. With Gomer not recruiting that well, his talent advantage isn’t going to be there much longer. And the advantage that he had might be gone sooner than later with transfers and players going pro in the coming weeks. Think a program would take Stepp and actually use him correctly ?

    This video thing just makes USC look stupid, but if everyone else is doing it by all means follow like sheep.

    1. Glad to see that there is at least one sensible graduate (Kim) out of the bunch. Maybe there are some others, but certainly not Bass, Barragan, or Bourdeaux.

        Trying to mess with Cristobal of course. As Helton never had an original tought in his life he is the ultimate copycat. Dabo is hot so Clay wants to be like Dabo, or Saint Nick or Urban, or Shaw or Brian or Chip Kelly… you know any coach who is better than him so that would pretty much cover all Power 5 and a lot of G5 coaches.

  5. Maybe it’s time to update the “Winners & Losers” feature….. being how the “Losers” category doesn’t do justice to Carol Folt. Under the present system she’s grouped in with harmless “BLVD Studios”.

  6. Folt and the Board of Trustees should perpetually be on the loser’s list. They are doing exactly what they want to do, and they think the alums are too dim to notice.

The BOT is the big problem.The fact that they thought that Nikias could remain after each huge f-up, one after the other, each one getting national headlines, tells us how screwed up Caruso and his buddies truly are. I doubt there is another major university in which an oversight committee is de facto running the show.
