Is USC landing commitments on game days as a marketing ploy?

Arron White, a Class of 2025 athlete from Orange High School, committed today.

It feels a little staged and it’s the second game this season where USC took a commitment. Never from an offensive lineman, of course.

    1. Watched UCLA game. Stanford was forced to start 2nd stringers and still almost won. The final heinous penalty on Chip is being reviewed by Pac 12 —there is talk of UCLA being stripped of the win….. and forfeiting remaining games….

      1. SUCC started its first string team vs an unranked, 17 point ‘dog Stanford team at crumbling mausoleum and lost 42 – 28.

The difference between SUCC and Stanford is Stanford shows up ready play with what they brung, while SUCC pussies out of a bowl game ’cause the mighty, mighty, any team, anytime, anywhere SUCC FB team has teeny-weenie injuries.

Is Kid Porcelain ready to play, or will SUCC have force the injured J. Dart to cover SUCC’s weak Ass.

But seriously, SC still has tons of talent outside QB– and this is an Oregon State that has been 4 & 2 in its last six games, with its wins vs Hawaii and Idaho. It’s no way we can lose this, especially at home.

      1. Soft…and undisciplined…as well as slow (at least in recognizing and winning the point of attack) – all of which goes to poor coaching. D-line hasn’t been good for a long time, but the only spark it had in recent memory was when BKU was coaching, but couldn’t have someone like him around in Heltonian Age.

    1. It’s not ‘softness,’ analysts. It’s the scheme. Orlando’s innovation at Texas was basically a 3-1 front, with one DE weighing 240 pounds. To deal with all those Big-12 spreads. His version here has a pass rush, if you want to call it that, from one rush end, ie Drake. Then there are some A gap blitzes, and so surprise overloads from the weakside, but with Drake there. He thinks DB blitz options are better than playing Korey Foreman. You beat this scheme by remembering to block Drake, by running to the strong side, or super strong side (don’t worry, SC won’t slide over), and by nudging to the ground any nearby DBs to the ground if they’re not already running the wrong way at full speed by design.

      1. I gotta be honest from my POV, those calls vs OSU are pure BS. Phantom facemasks, phantom hold calls, and one sided with the hand-fighting on the PI calls vs the Beavers. If anything this will make SC WRs that much more prissy and fails if they think they’re gonna get those calls in OOC games. IMO this is Kliavkoff– he’s not a person to sit back after the presidents rejected his effort to expand (which received a lot of coverage in Texas but little in CA.) OSU is whipping SC’s but and whipping the refs but too. . This is shameful.

  11. USC does have superior talent at wide receiver, but I just don’t see it anywhere else.. Oregon State is dominating our offensive and defensive lines. Drake Jackson is the most overrated defensive player we have ever had. He is very poor at fighting off blocks, and gives up very early on every play. The rest of our defensive line is getting crushed by the Oregon State offensive line as are our linebackers. Our defensive lineman all look small in size, and get 0 penetration.

Folks it’s not all about coaching tonight. Oregon State looks like a bigger, stronger, and faster football team.

Looks to me like a long season. We need to recruit better linebackers, offensive, and defensive lineman. My goodness please remember this is Oregon State.

To be honest, this will be on Helton and the rest of the poor leadership above in the past and present until he is off the payroll and the hole he dug over the last 7 years is filled in and a new foundation is laid. It’s the most evident in the lines. They are bullied on both sides of the ball and Steel now with 2 unsportsmanlike conduct calls in successive weeks. Discipline and fundamentals are atrocious. I still don’t know why Lynn Swann and Bohn both made statements about a necessary culture change and then fire everyone but retain the one guy who sets and dictates culture.

IMHO it’s not that they won’t try, it’s that it’s a team that won’t make the extra effort above and beyond because they’re not united around their on-field play caller who they feel is over hyped or whatever. 24. Scott actually predicted this. He said that #55 recruiting class from 2 years ago would begin to show itself. Looks like he’s correct. Which means next year will be worse. Unless you get Urban but that ain’t happening.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. It wasn’t the #55 recruiting class– that’s where it was before the end. It turned out being the #14 or #20, with an average per star ranking in the top 10. That surrounded by classes in the top 5., and what was said to be one of the top hauls in transfers by player ranking.

I think people have to come to the realization that this is one of the worse coaching staffs and program cultures in the country. This isn’t new for SC, but its really bad, and different.

The coaches are not just awful, but they “empire build” looking to their own future, they don’t give a sht about the program or student athletes, they are highly divisive, they don’t have a clue about understanding where they are and what works, the president of the university and many of her peers despise football and would like it to go away, the AD is incompetent (did everyone just forget about his tenure at fellow PAC 10 school Colorado?) and he’s spineless and only cares about himself, and if we are to be honest, many students at SC now don’t understand or have familiarity with the game or SC football in particular, much less love for it and the traditions, people and culture around it.

It’s really part of a wider set of unfortunate conditions right now. I dunno how this story ends, but I’m hoping for something that at least reminds me of the better days.

  25. Bottom line- lots of mistakes in recruiting. We have 0 offensive and defensive lineman.
Our defensive line lacks size looks like a high school team imagine what Notre Dame will do to these gu;ys. Our lineman play like linebackers, and react to the ball after the opposing running back is five yards down the field.

Tonight certainly shows recruiting just 4 and 5 star defensive backs, wide receivers, and qb’s does not win football games. Our recruting needs more balance we have way too much depth at defensive back and wide receiver., and little everywhere else. No. 72 Andrew Vorhees is terrible he gets beat on every play. Slow as a turtle. Drake Jackson is way overrated he can’t fight off any blocks. If Slovis and Jackson are 1st round picks then so should the Trojan horse.

Slovis—-equals Cody Kessler with even slower feet. I think it is time to give Miller Moss a chance until Dart comes back. The season is gone now give the kids a chance to play.

This team got their asses kicked. Some of it is coaching, and the rest poor recruiting on the offensive and defensive lines which has been going on for the last 7 years. Worst looking USC team since the Tollner, and Hackett eras. Not worth the price of admission to watch this program at this point in time.

    Pac 12 South predictions 9/25/2021:

    1) UCLA
    2) Arizona State
    3) Utah
    4) USC or Colorado- Even game this Saturday, but Colorado can beat USC at home in Boulder.
    5) Arizona

    Pac 12 North
    1) Oregon
    2) Washington
    3) Oregon State
    4) Stanford
    5) Cal
    6) WSU

Looks like all the new assistant coaches or resources Bohn has taken credit for are all not working out including Orlando, and Harrell. Donte, is a good recruiter of defensive backs, but the question remains can he coach. Coach Bohn needs to focus on hiring the right guy for USC which might be more difficult than expected now with the program now at rock bottom. Many say USC has far superior talent than all the other Pac 12 teams. This may be true at some positions, but football games are won in the trenches which is where we are lacking talent.

    Liked by 3 people

    1. I say EVERYONE should go –including Donte. The d-backs were outta position all game. I realize he doesn’t have time to personally coach them anymore —but they’re still his unit & they suck.
Speaking of sucking, I don’t know why a coach sticks with a guy who has sucked since the Oregon game (then Iowa, then San Jose State, then Stanford and, now, Oregon State). Obviously Slovis can’t lead the team. The fact they didn’t want their QB as team captain speaks fricking volumes. I hear Kedon and Graham hung out together all summer — skateboarding like two little ding-a-lings. Maybe the team just wants to move on from all the bullcrap.

  27. AGAIN… NEVER SEEN A USC DEFENSIVE LINE GET BLOWN OFF THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE LIKE LAST NIGHT. IT WAS LIKE OUR LINEMAN WERE 5 YARDS BACK FROM THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE ON MOST PLAYS WHEN THE OREGON STATE RUNNING BACKS HIT THE HOLES.
Halftime Adjustments? There were none except it appears Orlando and Co. were waving the red flag.

Our defensive lineman all look undersized especially our nose tackle.
Drake Jackson- you got your butt kicked again, and you are vastly overrated. Our linebackers did very little to plug the holes, and they look like defensive backs.

Recruiting 101———football starts in recruiting offensive and defensive lineman not just Wide Receivers, and Defensive Backs.

The Air Raid Offense must be grounded. USC must get back to the running game to be a good football team again, and to get there recruiting must focus on lineman.

Freshman Miller Moss should start next Saturday against Colorado. We are going nowhere with Slovis.
