USC Saturday Buzz: Restaurant Talk

Galco’s Old World Grocery, Eagle Rock (1897)

Famous for having more than 700 flavors of soda. Also carry candy like Big Hunk, Abba-Zaba, Oh Henry!, U-No and Zagnut.

The Polo Lounge, Beverly Hills (1912)

Located in the Beverly Hills Hotel, this was originally the only rest stop between Hollywood and Pacific Palisades for celebrities like Will Rogers and Rudolph Valentino who were playing polo. Howard Hughes lived in a bungalow and the hotel was on the cover of the Eagles’ album “Hotel California.” And you’ve got Faye Dunaway relaxing the morning after she won an Oscar.

Halfway House Cafe, Canyon Country (1931)

Breakfast and lunch place in Santa Clarita.

El Farolito, Placentia (1974)

This restaurant rountinely makes “best food in Orange County” lists. Perhaps because it is family-owned and operated.

Dick Church’s Family Restaurant, Costa Mesa 1947

Taylor’s Steakhouse, Los Angeles and La Canada (1955)

Dan Tana’s, West Hollywood, (1964)

Famous for turning away Richard Burton, it’s from an era where other well-known restaurants like Chasen’s and Scandia are no longer in business. You can get the New York Steak, Dabney Coleman; Veal Cutlet, Milanese, a la George Clooney; or Braciola, Vlade Divac.

And so this snowflake London is above being critiqued now is that it?

She made a video and now she should be showered with praise and given a participation award?

That’s the problem with these snowflakes, none of you clowns want to give an honest opinion about them

        Yeah, keep coddling them

    4. You sure yesterday wasn’t April Fool’s Day?

Check out this absolute joke of a highlight video from that girl Drake London’s so called workout.

She should be ashamed of herself.

      1. Where the hell is a highlight?

Why would anyone authorize the release of that video? What a joke!

      2. Ok Tebow. Obvious plant and I’ll give you that. But. I have a question. For a guy that hates SC and it’s players you spend an AWFUL lot of time here with posts and videos. I think maybe secretly you love the Trojans or you just crave attention. Or both. The videos you disparage are usually pretty good. Great workouts. Great practices. Etc. USC is your whole life man. Hah. And you are a glutton for punishment. Ok. Stay on the board but take your lumps like a man. Or ?? It’s Lent. I’ll be good.

      4. TeenyweenyObummer you write as if you know football, I don’t think that’s the case. He wore crocks out the field to show the scar he earned while catching a touchdown pass. He ran receiver drills like it was nothing.
My question for you is; what would you do if Drake London ran a pass pattern towards you? ( besides hide under your keyboard)

      5. There’s not a damn one of you that honestly thinks London didn’t embarrass herself with that performance in the video.

But you all want to sit here and coddle that kid and that’s what’s fucking wrong with these kids today, no one wants to be honest with them.   You clowns would rather see London embarrass herself to no end by telling her she did good in the video.

Whatever few scouts that were there and it didn’t look like very many at all, aren’t going to pull any punches with their assessment, they’re going to be real and say they were unimpressed, but you all go on not wanting to hurt tbe young ladies feeling by telling her she did good.

That girl London needs to hear the truth or you’re going to build her up like Su’a Cravens and then have to watch her quit just like that girl because no one wanted to tell her the truth, that she needed to work harder.

    6. George,

      Happy Holy Saturday.

I was thinking about the apostles while I was at the Passion at my church yesterday. My thought was, if the apostles had believed and had attended the cruxifiction, then all they would have had to say is, “Jesus, see ya in Sunday”. I know, another day in purgatory. Lololo

  1. Baker Mayfield said Riley played a big part of his success in Norman. “That whole process of learning from Josh Heupel, just a completely different coach, real harsh like military kind of and then Lincoln comes in, more laid back, more like, ‘OK, he’s going to make, whatever your strengths are, he’s going to try and really, really use those,’” Mayfield said. “…Different types of coaching, but the timing of that was perfect. There’s no other way I would’ve made it to where I’m at right now if he wouldn’t have come in when he did.”

    1. It’s kinda funny but the Ucla version of 24/7 on Facebook ran a sour grapes article about Lincoln being a distraction at the end of the season with the rumors about other coaching gigs.
I summed it up by saying the player complaint was that Riley didn’t lie to the team about his intentions, he just didn’t bring it up. He didn’t play favorites (benching Rattled (sic)) but played the hot hand. It’s all point of view and should be noted the players complaining transferred even after Riley left.

  2. A buddy of mine was a waiter in the one VIP restaurant at Disneyland back in the day where you could get served alcohol. Burton and Taylor were having dinner there. According to my friend, Burton knocked back 6 vodka martinis before the appetizers arrived. He left my buddy a $200 tip (mid 70s), prob close to $800 today.

    1. Thank you, 67.
Hope Drake heals up right. I hate to think he’s rushing things.
[He might actually have been better off rehabbing at USC this year —and making one spectacular appearance in some easy game —like UCLA]….

      1. Michael, yes, he does seem to be rushing it, though I think he looked really good for a guy who fractured his ankle. If he played versus westwood this fall, USC might score 70 instead of 50.

      2. Yeah –that’s what I was thinking, 67 –low to mid 70’s.
Maybe Drake should have just tweeted “I’ve re-scheduled my combine for November 19th —- Please watch live on ESPN.”

      3. Michael, does owns remember that he predicted ucla would beat Lincoln Riley’s oklahoma team in 2019, predicting that ucla would hold oklahoma to under 20 points?

Oklahoma was ahead, 34-0 halfway through the second quarter before Riley emptied the bench.

  4. Hey ’67, remember when the bozos were going “shock the world” and mug Alabama @ Jerry’s house. Scum lost 52 – 6 and didn’t score a TD.

“67 you’d be an ok guy if you weren’t such a half baked, Clown U, douche bag.

#62 – 33 @ the crumbling mausoleum. Remind me ’67, what’s changed on the bozo FB squad that leads you to believe SUCC will mug UCLA this year. And don’t say SUCC’s coaching staff changes, because coaches don’t block and tackle.
