Imagine the reaction you would have gotten a few years ago if you predicted Drake London, Drake Jackson and . . . Velus Jones would be drafted in the first three rounds.
Jones is a great example of the transfer portal working. He couldn’t get any USC coaches (Clay Helton, Graham Harrell) to give him a chance so he went somewhere else and drew the interest of NFL teams. His fast 40 time helped too but if he stayed at USC he wouldn’t have any tape to accompany that 40 time.
What would have been interesting at the time is to see how many people would have thought Isaiah Pola-Mao would have gotten drafted ahead of Jones?
- Three USC players got drafted (London, Jackson, Keaontay Ingram in sixth round to Cardinals). Two former USC players got drafted (Jones, Jack Jones in fourth round to Patriots). Almost an even split.
- Among undrafted players, Pola-Mao signed with the Raiders; Isaac Taylor-Stuart signed with the Cowboys. Erik Krommenhoek signed with the Chargers. Chris Steele signed with the Steelers and Kana’i Mauga signed with the Falcons.
