USC Morning Buzz: Winners And Losers Of The Week

WINNERS

Pac-12

It survived a week without breaking up. That’s a win these days. Should it stand pat? Join forces with the ACC? Or try to merge with the Big 12? It’s still a mess.

Seth Etherton

The former USC pitcher is returning as the Trojans’ pitching coach. The three-time All-American has worked in the Cincinnati Reds organization since 2016, most recently as pitching coach for Class AAA Louisville.

Ceyair Wright

Landed role on the TV series, “Grown-ish.” But how does this help his football career?

PURGATORY

Jordan Addison

The wide receiver denied a report he was unhappy with this NIL deals at USC. He got the No. 3 from Carson Palmer. That’s enough.

LOSERS

Offensive line recruiting

Maybe it’s a mistake to make Florida prospects your two top targets. But that’s what the USC coaches did. No one else.

Josh Henson

There was a lot of praise when Lincoln Riley hired him as offensive line coach and it might turn out to be a great hire. But so far, it’s not leading to a recruiting renaissance.

Coach Bohn

Is he calling Colin Cowherd for advice? He does court friendly media so I don’t doubt it. The dangerous part is if he ever listens.

  1. Winner: USC

Dodgers are running away with their division; Lakers are in off-season with no hope; Bruins are Bruins; Rams are still a way off

So come September there is only one sports entertainment in the City of Angels, and we is it.

      1. You’re right, I stand corrected.

Still, there might be a cross-over of fans, but SC and the Rams largely draw from a different fan base.

      1. Sad but true excuse the length of this screed but I put this up today

Remember 2+ years ago when Moreno became impatient and ‘scotched’ that trade for Joc Pederson because he was tired the 3rd part of the deal hadn’t come to agreement on what they were willing to give up? Moreno’s in a tough place and it’s all his doing – ….getting conned by Bill Stoneman to promote an unproven Tony Reagins as GM. When it was obvious Reagins had no skill then Scoscia began moving into the GM slot i.e. making sure Mike Napoli was traded – a guy that went onto play for 3 world series teams. On top of that his keeping Scoscia way too long, esp. after 2010. DiPoto was tasked to hire that gold brick Pujols and Josh Hamilton and famously clashed with Scoscia and then quit….in comes Billy Eppler who 1. got Trout to agree to that huge extension and 2. got Shohei Ohtani to sign…..Scoscia quits leaving Eppler twisting in the wind who then hired Brad Ausmus then Eppler is fired and in comes Minasian.

Who in their right mind would want to work for Arte Moreno? This is all his making esp. putting in his frat buddy as president Kuhl and that other Univ of AZ alum Carpino as CEO. It’s why Friedman, when Moreno contacted him to work for the Angels as GM, declined and 2 years later was with the Dodgers.

      1. Did you see her apology? “I’m sorry if you don’t like being called “tacos”?
Is the Biden Family giving up on being loved and going with being despised instead?

    1. By the way, Ed, this isn’t the first time the Bidens have shown what racist fools they are. Do you remember Dementia Joe playing “Despacito” on his phone thinking it would make him look down to earth and in touch with Latinos. Just the opposite!

And his “If you don’t vote for me, you ain’t black” comment was bigotry at its finest. But the morons call those of us who knew what a failure Joe would be bigots.

      1. The Bidens are the very worst kind of bigots: the kind that don’t even know they’re bigots.

  3. Lincoln Riley still doesn’t have the ability to build a team along the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball. He can’t shake that typical Big 12 flag football mentality, whoever has the ball last wins the game 59-57 .. lol 😂. Then get your Ass kicked by a physical team in the playoffs 😂

      1. Moniker or not, using the name “Helton” will get you nowhere outside of perhaps Georgia.

  4. Scooter,

for Jordon and Ceyair, pull your heads out of your rectum. You haven’t done a thing on the field for SC. When you become a receiver like Mike Williams and a shutdown guy like Carrier or Lott, then you can talk and do what you want. Just shut up and play with all of your effort. Prima Donnas

  5. Scooter,

This year is a wash for olinemen. Horrible. Henson has been here since December and can’t land a top end recruit. However, he has another 5 months to improve with the early signing day in December. we will see.

Did you hear the fool claim that 92% of Democrats would vote for him, when a reporter asked about Democrats not wanting him to be the 2024 nominee? That was only if he were facing Trump!! LMAO

        He’s so clueless.

    2. Chip is so large he can make up the entire right side of the OL. For sweeps, no problem, the sideline just needs to throw donuts on the field and watch him clear a running lane.

  7. I think LR is doing a good job recruiting but let’s be honest…..CH did a much better job at recruiting O-Linemen in his first 3 years as HC. His recruiting fell off in the last 3 years but in the first 3 years he did a much better job. In those first couple of years he brought in Chuma Edoga, Clayton Johnson, Austin Jackson, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Andrew Vorhees, Brett Neilan, Jalen McKenzie, Justin Dedich and other 4 stars who ended up going somewhere else eventually or not making it for other reasons.
LR seems like a very capable guy. Hopefully, he’s concerned about it and is looking for a solution. What’s the problem? Is it not a good enough NIL? Is it poor recruiters? One of the problems with CH was that when he had a problem he didn’t fix it. He just voiced a lot of lip service saying that they were working on the problem when, in reality nothing was being done.
Hopefully, LR is a fixer because the O-Line recruitment is a problem. It’s true that he has been in the top three in each of these cases but being in the top 3 is no better than being in the top 100 if you lose the recruit.
