USC Morning Buzz: NIL Hype Videos Excite Certain Crowd

I get why USC has to create hype videos for NIL. It needs to come up with something to impress recruits.

What is less clear to me is why some media feel the need to cheer on whatever BLVD Studios announces? What’s in it for them? Are they invested somehow in this? If you cover the team, you don’t need to cheer on endorsements, unless you are a total fanboy (which explains plenty) or getting a cut from BLVD.

BLVD announced Sunday it will have four new shows “coming to your phones.”

One show will be about the “best taco joints LA offers.”

Another show features USC athletes playing video games with “influencer” Sydnee Goodman.

You might remember her playing video games in that disastrous BLVD hype video a couple years ago that Coach Bohn yanked from the internet.

Bohn buried it but here it is to jog your memory.

Here’s Goodman playing video games with Alijah Vera-Tucker in that video.

And two years later, she’s playing with Jordan Addison in the video below. Seminal content!

    1. Yes. Ed. Thank you for your question. Many bad things show up in these videos. But the worst by far is: Players being thrown into the pool [against their will and to the accompaniment of loud music—-which can be very confusing & disorienting] & getting water up their nose —which can be serious …..and lead to USC doctors keeping them out this season….and maybe next too, just to be safe….just like what happened to so many of our great tightends and running backs in the past …..which led to them hating our school and transferring to community colleges to get revenge ……but …

    2. In case any of you were wondering why pudly69 hasn’t posted any BLVD. Studio twitter videos lately it’s because he aggravated some ongoing lingering injuries while visiting his long-time pal Clay Helton down in Georgia this past weekend.

pudly69 over-exerted himself on a night out with Clay and developed 3rd degree rug burns on his knees, tennis elbow in both arms and a severe case of lock jaw.

He should be back on his knees in no time

Money is never really wasted, Ed, when it helps young people discern the deep values cherished in Los Angeles…. the cars, the women, the clothes….the cool hamburgers served by a man who breathes thru his mouth and calls timeout when you’re on the 1 yard line to put in plays so complicated you get a delay of game when time resumes….

  1. Now I could have predicted this middle school amateur hype video, after BLVD press release. Why couldn’t they used current players like Caleb, Addison highlighting all the deals they have secured through BLVD, well another gaffe on the university administrators. What’s next, please show me the salary structure based on your stars. According to BLVD website they are making base salary structure based on how many stars you have. SAY WHAT!!! So your telling me everyone on the team is going to get endorsements deals or some will be cleaning up skid row?

  2. Having never owned a television (Honest Injun!), I have been spared each year of approximately 1400-hours of viewing time (Americans watch about 4-hours of t.v. each day times 365-days).

Try it sometime, you might like it.

    1. I joined your club, John. A while back I called Spectrum and asked how much they’d take off my $282 monthly bill if I cancelled HBO —they said “that brings you down to something like $275.” I said ‘how bout we take the Pac 12 Network off too’ —- they said that “now you’re down to $269 or something like that.” I said “how bout you take you whole fucking package and stick it up your ass?”

      1. MG…..Does that include your internet service? I had a similar conversation with a girl from Cox. The lovely young lady told me, “the rate increase is related to the cost to do business”…..all-righty!… Codeword for, the top executives will not lose their 7 figure bonuses.

You should not have waited, you should have dropped your F-Bomb on them at the start

By the way, I use the term fuke instead of the F-Word. It is softer on the ear and yet I still get the same satisfaction

        — Telling Spectrum ‘Fuke You’ is close enough to the real thing.

  3. Everyone clicking on this site or the other USC sites is a FANBOY or FANGIRL or just plan FAN.

In the old days we would call it being an “apologist” or being on or off the bandwagon.

    Like

    1. There are still plenty of bandwagon fans. They’re the ones who won’t be there this Saturday, then if by some huge miracle undefeated at the end of the season, they’ll show up at the last couple of home games claiming to be lifelong, diehard fans.

They’ve attended games only sporadically the last few seasons. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Those of us who are there through thick & thin welcome them back with open arms.

      1. When travel is involved to get to a home game it makes it pretty hard to actually attend. With flights, cars, hotels, meals and drinks plus tickets and of course a new shirt it does get pricey. I guess you could call me bandwagon if that is the definition, although I think you pretty much nailed it. The last tickets I had was for USC/Alabama in Texas. That one got cancelled. Thankfully!!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Well, no, no. Not for those Trojans who aren’t local.

If a flight is involved, it’s great that those fans make one or two per season!

      7. Interesting concept, So Cal, trying to measure the different levels of interest SC fans have in their team.

In order to quantify the various Interest-Levels fans have, and using a scale of 0 to 100, with ‘0’ signifying one who thinks SC stands solely for South Carolina, all the way up to 100, with 100 reserved only for Coach Wiley, I would say mine is on average in the 70-80 range.

When Troy wins, my interest soars into the 90s, and when they lose, say, to sucla, I get a little depressed but I seldom get the urge to go out and kill a bunch of little suclas. Maiming will do.

Oh yeah I remember. This new media is beyond us old folks and baffles people who used to read the morning paper for news. My 30 something daughter announces her morning presence by blasting some talking head from her phone. Gawd knows she does for entertainment, but her opinions come straight from that hand held device, which cost four times what a 32″color TV cost when I was her age. I don’t get it because it’s not aimed at my demographic (dead or nearly dead) I can’ t stand the sportscaster in my new area because of his “hip” jargon. He’s talking about someone on the “bump” not throwing “panhandles” and I’m like “Mrs.Ghost, where’s the remote!?”

    1. I can certainly identify with you. Fortunately I am somewhat insulated from the generation with a phone attached to their face. I watched a girl next to me on a plane one time spending an hour looking at her selfies. Then she sat there for another 30 minutes taking more. Thankfully it was a short flight. Never once did she respond to me with more than a single syllable answer she was so engrossed in her phone.

  8. BLVD / Stay doubted is nailing this. They are creating content so they can play players for said content. Every player will eventually make their way into these shows, it’s brilliant. They will have a basic salary as a retainer for the content. It’s fine so all of it looks like “true NIL” and not just play football and get paid. We all know that’s what it really is, but BLVD is putting together a great format. Good work and fight on!!!

    Liked by 1 person

  9. Probably. I guess the brilliance was student body right forcing BLVD to become a collective. I still like the format as well.
