Who Are Your Underrated USC Players?

Has anyone been underrated this season for USC?

I’m talking about guys who don’t get a lot of headlines. Someone like linebacker Eric Gentry gets a lot of praise, so he’s not underrated.

I think an underrated player is defensive tackle Tyrone Taleni, who has quietly put together some solid games. He had three tackles and 1.5 sacks vs. Arizona State. He’s a transfer from Kansas State and fortunately for Taleni, is not getting lost in the shuffle.

Another underrated player is tight end Malcolm Epps. He only caught three passes in five games but two are touchdowns. And he has interception. That’s making an impact with few opportunities.

And don’t forget Korey Foreman. Just kidding.

Who would you pick?

    1. Grinch, Nua and Donte Williams are shit!

Those 3 Stooges will be the downfall for USC this year and next year if ‘Ol Mule Shoe doesn’t can their worthless asses.

The Trojan O line is bad, but I don’t blame the O line coach, he can only do so much with what he has to work with.

‘Ol Mule Shoe needs to focus on getting some big boys in the trenches pretty quick or USC is going to be in big trouble by the time they enter the B1G.

This year is over, the Trojans will lose at least 3 just telling you that now

      1. Tebowobama I disagree. Our OL was missing Dietrich’he is very important to the line wants he gets healthy our line will be better. We can only improve . I trust LR for game planning now, that he sees how the offensive line cannot hold blocks past 3.5 seconds. So with that being said, we will not lose 3 games this season . All teams play teams that expose your weaknesses. Coaches must impose a game plan that will be able to show our strengths instead of our OL weaknesses. In my opinion we will only lose 1 game if that. Utah will be the game in the PAC12. Our seasons hinges on that 1 game, if we want to be considered for the CFP. Rather we go undefeated or end up with one loss. We need Clemson Michigan and 2 SEC teams to end up with 2 losses. The Committee will select a two lost SEC team over USC, because of the west coast bias, or if they make a SEC CS game and it’s close. Our margin of error is pretty slim. Fight On.

      2. Yes! We’re down to 3 losses! Before the season you had us getting beat by practically everybody….

    1. I would go with Caleb Williams, because when the going gets tough, he pouts like the little Bitch. Can you imagine if he threw an interception that was taken back for a touchdown? Lincoln Riley would have to use his junk as a pacifier 😭😭😭🍆🍆

  2. Stanley Ta’ufo’ou. 12 tackles and one sack. Keeping Pili on second string and starting to play like a real threat on the d-line. If only he could play on the edge and set it for the rest of the defense.

  3. My underrated player is Stanley T.on the defensive line. Who has more pressure and sacks more than Foreman. Who would have thought that before the season. We need more player’s like this to get better and surprise us. Dejong Benson is second who is thriving in the defense. Where is Bryson Shaw Gordon and Covington? Are they getting significant snaps because I mostly see D Jackson getting reps with Wright so there are limited amount of reps for P Brown Covington Shaw Alford Thompson. I guess Beavers n Gordon are getting most of the snaps. Maybe the above mentioned will prove in practice they deserve some PT. We must continue to recruit DB’s who can play multiple positions.

  4. All good points especially on the defensive line. But even though there was expectations With Dye, what he means to this team is incredible. As important as Williams is (and he is sometimes a one man show) he can be that because Dye is a check down threat, an amazing blitz pick up guy, will not put the ball on the ground, will get 6 yards when you need 5, and perhaps the best “glue guy” on the west coast. All the heart, guts, and football intellect that we have been missing for the last 3 years. And was never recruited by USC out of hs. Maybe its because he wasn’t from Texas

  6. Here’s a player that gets fanfare, but one aspect of his game is underrated. It’s Travis Dye and his pass-protection skills.

Oftentimes, he has to pick up a strongside edge rusher or a blitzing LB outweighing him 30 to 50 pounds. Which has avoided Caleb taking some big blindside hits.

Travis is a prime example of what it takes to be a third-down back.

    1. A lot of folks wouldn’t be able to grasp how much Dye means to this offense unless he had to sit out a week….and we couldn’t run the ball past the line of scrimmage….

      1. I wish all the best for him, he deserves it. Along with a fruitful NFL career.

Speaking of Brown, that kid has been inches away from breaking the big one. The wiggle he possesses is very unique.

      2. I think Brown will be a good back eventually but doesn’t know yet when to change objectives mid run. Ie, when to come off the focus of big gain when its not there and gash what ever crease is left to get the 2 extra yards to make the next down easier. So often he finishes runs laterally or in a retreat. Not knowing when to slice vertically on the way down. Typical freshman move. In HS, when you are as superior athlete you want to bounce everything to the outside. D1 doesn’t work that way unless you are super human or a Bush or someone like that. Dye and Jones are accomplished all down backs and know what is needed of them from their offense. Does anyone realize that it is because they came from programs who knew how to run the ball and not arrogant air raid programs. OCs and RB coaches who teach the fundamentals and requirements of the position. And both kids know full well how to pass block and blitz pickup. Between the 2 guys all season only once was the back responsible for the sack or hurry and that was when Jones got trucked by Bethal last saturday and he was in the right place just feet were off the ground and hit by a 250 backer with a full head of steam. Even then, a lighter Dye would have cut him at the waist and dispatched of him with haste.

      3. Brown might break one against Washington State …IF someone can spring him past scrimmage…Washington State’s linebackers and safeties won’t get near him IF he gets that far….

    2. also i get a little anxious when Brown has the ball. I feel a fumble coming and hopefully not a the wrong time. The other guys, I don’t get that feeling.

      Liked by 2 people

      1. The reason you get that feeling? Raleek is small & light —needs to put on 10 pounds of muscle —which he’ll do by next season.

    1. Callen Bullock is very good he will be even better next year he needs to add another 10 pounds to put him closer to the LOS. Scouts want to see if he can be a ball hawking n physical safety. Great athlete great attitude should be All American Honorable Mention this season & Preseason All American next year. He is always in perfect position to make a play. Y is LR playing D. Jackson as a slot corner maybe to see his open field coverage ability. He should be playing boundary corner?

      1. Well, of course, Michael. What else would we be talking on a USC football blog?

Unless maybe Alec Baldwin saying he “would never point a gun at someone and pull the trigger on them. Never.” 😛

You stupid senile troll!… I used “don’t recall” because I have NEVER read one single post from you talking about what takes place on the football field……prove me wrong or STFU. The lack of a football IQ is a “you” problem…..why would it have anything to do with Biden’s or my mental capacity?

      7. It’s quite obvious you have comprehension issues and a decline in cognitive ability.

I called you out over your inability to post content related to the game of football. Your rebuttal was the typical reference to Biden. So if you’re going to cry “cause and effect”, and sound like a fucking hypocrite who made fool out of yourself.

You’re a mental midget and your grammar is often poor. Go have the shar pei change the Depend. It’s criminal the way she takes care of you.

PS…. your boi horse plow is another half-wit, who I take great pleasure in slapping him around like a pinata(don’t worry, you’re still my favorite). On numerous occasions, I have debunked his BS… Horse has proven himself to be the true BS artist……you comprehend, doubt it!

    1. I have definitely heard that name, George —but I didn’t interact with RTD except for one whistleblower case —[where I found out the hard way the Whistleblower Protection Act is really an Employer Protection Act —it’s written in such a way that no whistleblower is given protection unless they tell their employer their going to whistleblow in advance —completely irrational requirement]…..

  8. No clue as to who anyone is b/c half the games have been on the PAC-12 Network. Practice being closed to the media and players not doing any in-week media news conferences. All the transfers don’t really help either. The LA Times, Daily News, Fanboy pay-sites, and ESPN have abandoned sincerely covering the team to carrying water for Bohn & Carroll for access.

    1. Much of what you typed is true –but we have enough nationally [or regionally] televised games to know the basic strengths [and weaknesses] of both our offense and defense. It is a shame, though, we can’t get more access to what’s up in practice….and…. that the Times is so worthless.

  9. Tahj Washington, Junior wide out. He’s got great hands, runs tight routes and he’s quick on crossing routes. This kid is a very, very good player. On an offense loaded with great pass catchers, this kid can hold his on with any of them. Go back and check out the tape of the first game and you can see how he made key plays. He is definitely good enough to play on Sundays. So he’s my underrated player to watch. I hope he stays for his Senior year

    1. 100% agreement. He’s making his presence felt. Not only great hands…but he knows how to get free. He’s the only player who knew what Graham Harrell meant by “find the green grass.”
