Caleb Williams Is Heisman Favorite

If you have a big game on national TV and you’re from USC, you become the Heisman favorite.

Think Carson Palmer vs. Notre Dame in 2002 (425 yards, 4 TDs.) Caleb Williams is the new Heisman favorite according to BetOnline.

USC’s national title odds also improved. The Trojans are 25/1. Georgia is 5/7; Ohio State is 5/2; Michigan is 10/1; TCU is 14/1 and Clemson is 20/1.

  1. He deserves the consideration as does the team for a national championship. The improvement has been steady the past 2+ games. The 4:30 pm PST start for TheIrish @ USC on ABC is THE game for rivalry weekend as MI @ OH St. airs at 9:00 am PST and an interesting pair of games OR St. @ OR @ 12:30 pm PST and IA St. @ TCU 1:00 pm PST.

The rest of the Top 25 games are all clear mismatches.

A victory will elevate Williams as well as ranking for Troy.

  2. I’m happy for Caleb —but — I hope all the Heisman talk doesn’t cause him to put extra pressure on himself. If a couple things go wrong on the first drive —fuck it — just play through it —don’t start thinking “am I blowing my Heisman?!”

    1. Mike I rather doubt he’s like that – we would have seen him jockeying like a certain QB some 52 years ago who changed the pronunciation of his last name to rhyme with Heisman and lost in the Coli in ‘the rain’…

      1. I was at that game rusoviet with my ex-wife having her hair-fall soaked with rain and looking like something the cat would have dragged in because I refused to leave until the end as SC kept piling on the points against our most hated rival Notre Dame

    2. Caleb is a competitor. He usually plays his best when the pressure is on. The whole team does. The pressure was on when they played in the Utah nuthouse and the team actually played well(should have won). Caleb threw for 381 yards. The pressure was on against UCLA and even though they only won by 3 points, the box score says that they dominated and Caleb had his best game. This game is on prime time ABC TV….I think Caleb will shine.

If Herbie says after this win and, this performance how can you not give Caleb Williams the Heisman. As for the team it would really be hard to not put USC in the CFP, if they beat Oregon . Just predicting what Herbie will say. ESPN is like MSNBC for political propaganda on the left side, whomever they promote the Committee and Heisman voters will listen n take notice. I rest my case for CALEB for Heisman.

  3. Interesting reading college football comments from fans across the nation in which most say SC has a horrible defense that its terrific offense can only carry so far

But so far so good, so what do they know?

    1. That’s more the move that former deceased SEC Commissioner Mike Slive did back in 2007 after USC demolished both Auburn and AR on Home/Away games forbidding any more SEC teams schedule USC for regular season games and was the same time frame OK’s AD Joe Castiglione backed out of a H/A against USC….it isn’t contempt it’s a recognition the leviathan is loose again.

    2. As a USC fan, I agree with the general populous. None of the teams USC has played are powerhouse teams. I think they would get beat by any team ranked above them now. Mark my words, the defense will be the Achilles heel.

      1. In the future, they must rise above this penchant to just try and outscore the opponents if they want to win a NC. Chip Kelly has done that for years and look where that has got him. But I do like the way LR started with the offense when building this team. The rules have been swaying towards the offense in the last 50 years because offense sells(the fans like offense). Targeting and roughing the passer and a lot of the rules they have put in in the last 50 years make it hard on the defense.

    3. I think we have not yet seen all the tricks in Riley’s playbook yet. I’m also hopeful that when Gentry comes back, the defense improves. We have not seen the defense with both Gentry and Shaw on the field.

I actually prefer USC’s offense when they mix up the running backs and receivers. The emergence of Ford and MJ3 is huge. Could Foreman gain confidence and start contributing?

    4. 4 of the top 5 scoring defenses in the Country are in the Big 10 (Michigan, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota). Georgia ranks first. More indicative of pathetic Big 10 offenses than great defenses me thinks. USC is allowing 26.3 per game this year so far. 2019 LSU allowed 21.9.

    5. I still say that it’s tough to play and coach defense in the Pac-12 this year. It’s probably one of(if not THE) best offensive conferences in NCAA football. Offensively, USC is rated #2 nationally in total offense. Oregon is #3, UCLA is #5, Washington is #6, Arizona is #20, Utah is #25. Oregon State and Washington State aren’t bad either.

  4. Scooter,

I look at this way, if SC snobberknocks the whining irish of nutre dumb and they beat the pac 12 team for league, then he is the winner. ,No other player has done what he has done, espcially that fragile egg, the ugly qb.

  5. He has been THE player to literally carry the team. Without him it is very doubtful USC is 10-1. In fact, I know it would not happen with this defense.

    3. If the towel wavers can get the crowd into the game, I’m for it. If we are ever going to have a great football program here at SC, LR needs to find a way to turn the Coliseum into a Utah or Oregon nuthouse. The crowd is a factor. I think that he is trying to do that. You got that impression when he said after the UCLA game, “we want everyone to know that football is alive and well here on the west coast”. Look at all the football programs who haven’t lost a game at home in a long time. I think Clemson has won 39 home games in a row.

  6. I like our chances against anyone this year because of Caleb Williams. Caleb creates so many issues for the top 4 teams with his scrambling ability. Coach Riley just has to keep Caleb grounded now that the Heisman hype has begun.

A healthy Jordan Addison is a nightmare for any secondary and with Kyle Ford, Mike Jack and Tahj Washington contributing – I would hate to face our receiving corp!

Our defense may be terrible, but they’re opportunistic and can create turnovers. Tuli and Taleni are the key with their aggressive pass rush. Have to keep them on the field and stop dropping Tuli into coverage as a linebacker. Foreman is always a step away from a big play so hopefully he can break through in the next few games. The secondary has to take chances and go for interceptions as their coverage skills are weak. They must step-up and prevent big plays or we’ll have a repeat of the fUCLA game.

The Big10 and SEC look just as bad (if not worse) than the Pac12, ACC and Big12. It’s a wide open field this year and anyone can win it. USC has just enough pieces to bring home a National Championship!
    FIGHT ON!

    1. I agree SCallDay, it’s very wide open, if you have an offense like ours. All defenses have weak links in the secondary. Nobody can play a full 60 minutes when teams have creative QB’S and multiple playmakers such as us. We must give Caleb protection or we are going to be in n deep deep trouble just saying. Like I said we have a punchers chance.

  7. You guys are sounding delusional. Caleb may be the best overall this year but this team is a year away from being worthy of a championship. Rebuilding the lines will be critical but winning the next two will take a miracle.

Then again, Caleb can be a miracle worker sometimes. . . .

    1. Who said anything about winning a championship? A great motivator as a fan/player is overachieving when people doubt you. Getting to the CFP is worth the experience alone. You never want to, as a team, be in a moment/situation that is too big for you.

      Case in point, 9/16/2016 @ Dallas. Tx…..Bama 52….USC 6

USC fans shouldn’t mention the CFP until this team makes it to the CFP because no one, not even the most dedicated or most supportive knew this team would absolutely make it to the playoffs this year. The team is ahead of schedule for the rebuild, which was harder than what Mr. Wolf had reported. Let them finish what they’ve started. Playoff talk is still premature.

    1. I used the word hammer….it has to be a blowout, with CJ struggling. That scenario is a helping pathway for Caleb to win the Heisman….. is that like asking for cake AND ice cream, with the possibility of being shutout of the CFP

  8. Anytime you are preseason Hiesman candidate and your from USC, and your winning games on National TV. Everyone is looking at your performance. Caleb needs to continue to put up big numbers and win the PAC12 CG. Cj Stroud will need like 7 touchdowns 500+ yards against Michigan. Furthermore he will need another stellar performance in CG to overcome his last 4 games he has thrown for like 7 or 8 touchdowns. LR said player’s are not trying to win individual awards, really LR be modest about it.

And therefore other teams began to get better because of us not being relevant among top tier recruits who went to Ohio St Georgia etc. Now they fear us again which only validates our standings among the nation’s best.
