USC Notes: Holiday Bowl Sues Pac-12, UC Regents

This is a typical Pac-12 story.

The Holiday Bowl has filed a lawsuit agains the conference and UC Regents seeking more than $3 million in damages after UCLA elected not to play the 2021 game hours before kickoff, according to Brett McMurphy.

Here is a twist I never heard before: “Because the Pac-12 didn’t compensate the Holiday Bowl for the 2021 cancellation, the Holiday Bowl, to offset those losses, did not pay the Pac-12 for providing a participating team (Oregon) in the 2022 bowl.”

The Pac-12 told the Holiday Bowl two weeks ago it would file a lawsuit if it did not pay the conference for the 2022 bowl game by today.

Does this stuff happen in other conferences?

It’s always something with the Pac-12. UCLA certainly doesn’t want to pay any damages. It already has to pay Cal $2 million per year for moving to the Big Ten and has to pay back Comcast like all the other Pac-12 schools for that $50 million overpayment. That will cost each school $4 million.

UPDATED: Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff responded to USA Today:

“We offered mediation and we even offered an interest-free loan to the Holiday Bowl. They seemed interested in that until they disengaged on those conversations more than six months ago. Then we were surprised in April when they decided to not pay us for the ’22 game as a claimed offset against the ’21 game without any legal basis to withhold that payment.”

  • Clint Eastwood turned 93 today. Here he is getting an honorary degree at USC in 2007.

And here he is for his Class of 1949 senior picture at Oakland Tech High School. Eastwood went to Piedmont High School for three years before he transferred.

  • USC sprints coach Carmelita Jeter has been named head track coach at UNLV.

    1. Are you still at it? After I hacked your email, in order post using the avatar assigned to your email, I have inserted a key logging program, which has allowed me to access other sites you visit. I am mulling my next steps. My first instinct is to send a mass email to your entire contact list with copies of your online activities (not just here but other sites, I assume you would not want people to know about)
I will not elaborate as what have said here is already enough. You will never be able to prove you were not the person who sent the email. You are already being added to nuisance spam web vendors. (Check your junk email if you don’t believe me)

    1. I still do! Unforgiven and Gran Torino a couple of my favorites. But the old spaghetti westerns are great, too! Lee VanCleef was a badass, too!

    2. I’ll bet on the smart, quiet, poker-face kind of guy (Sentenza) over the loud mouth, obnoxious dude (Tuco) who wants to meet up with anyone who disagrees with him. Smart wins every time.

Gee, who does that second description sound like? Oh yeah, I know! LOL!

    3. Clint Eastwood was great friends with Burt Reynolds. One time they were fired from a movie on the same day. The director who fired them told Eastwood he was being fired because he spoke about one word every half hour and he had an extra large Adams Apple. Reynolds asked the director “why am I being fired? The director said “because you just flat out cannot act”. After they left the directors office Reynolds said to Eastwood…”you know Clint, you have a problem here…..I can always learn to act but I don’t know what you are going to do about that oversized Adams Apple”. Well, I don’t know what he did about it either but somehow he became a great actor, Adams Apple and all.

  3. I guess I’m the one who has to throw some shade at “My dear friend, Owns” (copyright M.Guarino). No more smack about SC’s colossal gack against Tulane. At least they showed up (for the most part) and played the game. The gutties tried to cut the cost of travel and went into their turtle shell safe space. Now they’re being sued! I hope the “Fighting Bean Counters” don’t try this (over the wall) with the Big10. #OwnTheShame #TrojansClinkTheirChampagneGlassesAgain!

  4. Bleed those limousine liberals white …. all their cheerleaders esp at the LAT, ESPN will continue to claim they have relevance esp that 80 yd practice field and a massive airplane hangar of a stadium that only sells out when they play USC or the actual Rose Bowl is held there.

  5. Scooter,

When you mentioned Eastwood, I think of Heartbreak ridge, Gran Tarino, The westerns, dirty harry movies, right Turn Clyde, Unforgiven, and others. He is an icon. Put it this way, if you had John Wayne and clint Eastwood in a movie or working together, things would get done and the movie would be perfect.

Don’t forget Kelly’s Heros. too many movies to list.

  7. There’s a lawyer who frequently emails me and states, “That when this Camp Lajeune lawsuit is settled” – I’m gonna be in the money. So when that happens, I’m gonna make a donation to the Pac 12 and help out with their lawsuit because of ucla. The gutties were already in the hole and I thought they could use the help. It’s what a Trojan fan would do.
