USC Sunday Buzz: A Weekend Commitment

USC received a commitment this weekend according to a tweet from Lincoln Riley.

It makes sense because USC is hosting a lot of recruits this weekend and has a camp today.

USC has just three commitments for the Class of 2024 but that number should pick up considerably during the summer as recruits visit the campus.

  • In college baseball, Arizona lost to Santa Clara, 12-4, and was eliminated after two games at the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats’ showing didn’t make the NCAA selection committee look good after taking the Pac-12’s eighth-place team over the fourth-place team (USC).
  • Yesterday was Tony Curtis’ birthday, so might as well roll out this picture of him wearing a USC uniform with Trojan tailbacks Al Carmichael (37) and Jim Sears (21) along with actress Mamie Van Doren in a publicity photo for the 1953 film, “All-American.”

Here’s the movie. At the 17-minute mark, you can watch Curtis punch Frank Gifford.

 “All-American” was produced (Aaron Rosenberg) and directed (Jesse Hibbs) by former USC All-American football players. It also featured USC players Elmer Willhoite, Don Clark, Harry Welch, Sears, Gifford and Carmichael among others along with plenty of stock footage from a USC game.

  4. Lincoln Riley is going to the Big Ten with PAC 12 kind of lineman next year, which doesn’t bode well for the Trojans. The two losses against a big strong Utah team last season was a small sample size of what’s to come against the Michigans, and Ohio State’s .
