Morning Buzz: USC Can Still Land A Top Lineman (It Hopes)

It’s kind of hard not to notice that as USC received a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Hayden Treter over the weekend, top 10-ranked offensive tackle Brandon Baker of Mater Dei High School appears to be favoring Oregon and doesn’t have USC listed among his top choices.

Now all is not yet lost for USC and top offensive lineman, as another top-10 prospect, offensive tackle DeAndre Carter of Mater Dei, will visit the campus in 10 days.

USC is considered a strong candidate to land Carter and is obviously the type of prospect USC needs to land. Of course, how hard should it be for USC get a top player from Mater Dei? Not hard at all.

In the meantime, the Trojans seem to be stocking up on three-star prospects.

Roger Craig (38), before Game 5 of the 1959 World Series at the Coliseum between the Dodgers and Chicago White Sox, being interviewed by sports writer Bob Hunter. Hunter went to USC and covered the Dodgers for more than 30 years.
  • Roger Craig, who spent seven seasons with the Dodgers and won World Series rings in 1955 and 1959 with the club, has died at age 93.

Craig was a key member of the Dodgers’ pitching staff in Los Angeles in 1959, when he went 11-5 with a career-best 2.06 ERA over 29 appearances. His ERA that season was the lowest on the team.

Craig is credited with popularizing the split-finger fastball through his work with Jack Morris, Milt Wilcox, Dan Petry, Mike Scott and many other pitchers in the 1980s.

To many, he became better known as manager of the San Francisco Giants for eight seasons (1985-92), which included a World Series appearance in 1989.

  1. If USC wants to get OL & Dl they better start playing the NIL game better than they have.

star OL don’t concern me, OL can develop after high school, look how many 3 stars got drafted in the last NFL draft

  3. George must feel like the captain of the Titanic. O-linemen are better off developing then leaving for top programs to get paid twice or more in NIL cash. If you can’t get a long NFL career at least you’ll have some money to go live like a “normie.”
