Remembering The Joy Of Celebrating

There is a real joy in photos of USC celebrating football victories in the 1950’s.

You can see how big USC’s 14-12 victory over UCLA was in 1952 that sent the Trojans to the Rose Bowl.

And the ensuing Victory Bell celebration. Were fans more invested? Maybe they were because they couldn’t just stare at their phones and stay home and watch streaming services.

The irony is victories over the Crosstown Rival were scarce this decade. USC coach Jess Hill was just 2-4 against UCLA. Imagine Hill already resented UCLA coach Red Sanders for being outgoing and loved by the media and then had trouble beating him too.

USC was 2-7-1 against UCLA in the 1950’s. That’s almost as bad as the 1990’s (2-8).

Maybe 2000-2009 made up for it for the fans when USC was 9-1 in the Crosstown Rivalry. Or the 1970’s (7-2-1) and 1960’s (7-3).

      2. #2 USC played at #7 Notre Dame that year the week after the exciting victory over #3 UCLA, but lost 9-0 in the bitter subfreezing temperatures of South Bend that afternoon. to spoil a perfect season and another national championship. But SC did defeat Wisconsin 7-0 in the Rose Bowl for the first West Coast win over the Big Ten after 7 straight losses.

  4. ’52 was a great year for the trojans in all sports,especially football and going to the ’53 Rose Bowl and beating Wisconsin…the bruins had some really good teams in the early-mid 50’s.

(Owns was way off on this one.) She did make statements under oath to the FBI and to congress. According to Comey, she lied on 13 separate occasions. (An IG report further confirmed the lies.) You can still watch Comey’s testimony regarding the lies on you tube in response to Gowdy’s questions. Notwithstanding, Comey elected not to indict her. A question arises why Comey would make that decision rather than Loretta Lynch, the AG. Because Lynch was discovered having a secret meeting in an airplane at the Phoenix airport with Bill Clinton a few days before the deadline to make an indictment decision and consequently people no longer trusted her ability to make an unbiased decision. (You can’t make this stuff up.) Comey acknowledged that there were several email chains that contained highly classified top secret documents on Clinton’s private server and that anymore in government would reasonably have to know that this was illegal and that the emails were likely intercepted by foreign intelligence agencies but he declined to prosecute because he wasn’t sure if Hillary’s actions were wilful or even grossly negligent. (Amazing) He didn’t even address the obstruction aspect of it – Hillary hiring a company to “bleach” the server and taking a hammer to her cell phones in violation of a court order. A two tiered justice system indeed.
