Were USC Fans More Intense, Part II

I asked a couple weeks ago if fans were more intense in the past?

This is a sendoff rally at 7:45 a.m. on a Friday before USC left for its game at Washington in 1951. The total crowd was estimated at 3,000. Would that happen today? Again, on a Friday at 7:45 a.m.

If you look closely at the banner, the letters were made with playing cards and pictures of dice because the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house was raided by the Vice squad a few days earlier and 21 students were arrested.

“Good Luck Team. Our odds are with you,” fraternity members shouted.

  1. I don’t know.. are you going to banish the Lakers, Dodgers & Rams back to their original cities? LA sports fans would have a lot more free time to wake up early on a Friday if you did. IOW that’s a stupid comparison considering our current sports market in LA.

      It’s why NE & AL spring games are sellouts – what else is there to do but shake winter out of your pores and run down in Lincoln or Tuscaloosa ‘cuz there’s nuthin’ else to do in them locales same for PA St..

    LA is just to busy to get bogged down saying good bye to a football team. I am sure that the LA fans are thinking it in their hearts though.
    Dodgers still suck. Always will.

      [Reminds me of when I was sick for a week in 3rd grade and the class had moved on to multiplication. The nun was going down my row asking 3 x 2?, 3 x3?, 3 x 4? …and I’m thinking “what the fuck?!”]…..

I’m not 100% sure but I think maybe it was that day in the third grade when the nun was quizzing my row on multiplication tables without having the common courtesy of calling my house the night before and asking to speak to me in my sick bed to tell me we had moved on from addition & subtraction….

The Biden’s tried to force the mom to have an abortion and when that didn’t work told her she would never receive a dime in child support and then disowned the innocent little girl and petitioned the court to deny her the family name. The moral depravity of the Biden’s is astonishing.         I must admit that your posts have improved remarkably. They are coherent and thoughtful and often supported by actual facts. For example, your take on the mortgage meltdown.     Naive not “street-wise,” people actually looked out for each other
    So, yeah, sports crowds were more into it, clean passion reigned

      Enjoyed your post on the Golden Era and I agree. I think the country went through the fires of the great depression and world war II and came out more appreciative of what they now have, and united in their beliefs and values – hard times do that to people. And thank you for referring to us Catholic protesters as “religious zealots.” (Much better than sanctimonious) I would hate to be thought of as mildly religious. The Bible says that God spews luke warm believers out of his mouth, they are offensive to him. God bless every one this Father’s day. I still think about my earthly father almost every day, 14 years after his death.
