I spoke to a USC coach Wednesday who told me even coaches agree that more of this June’s flurry of commitments are taken with a grain of salt.
“I’ve spoken to coaches in the Big 12 and some other conferences and a lot of them feel like there are a lot of commitments coming that won’t stick until December, or worse, until February,” the coach said. “This is the game everyone has to play right now. Take the commitment and hope for the best. It’s college football.”
It’s also making the NFL look even more attractive for some coaches.
- St. John Bosco linebacker Jordan Lockhart will announce his commitment tonight at 8 p.m. PT. He is down to USC and Texas A&M.

I recall Nick Saban once had a rule that if any committed recruit visited any other school after his commitment, Saban would withdraw the offer. I wonder if he is still doing that. Doubt it.
It seems clear that Lockhart’s decision will be strongly influenced by NIL. Who is their right mind would want to go to Texas A&M over USC.

Heard a podcast about the Elite 11 event that said Caleb was far and away the best mentor QB there – versus Penix and some others. He is just in another league. Hit the goal post from 50 yards out.

If USC has a great year this year, the commitments will last and even if they don’t, other opportunities will open up. In 2012, SC had one of the greatest recruiting classes ever. Fourteen of the players who were invited to play in the Army All American game were headed to SC(kids like Jalen Ramsey). Then SC had that miserable year and most of them de-committed. It works the other way around. You have a great year and everyone wants to come to your school.
