This is a busy season for high school football and basketball recruits, though not necessarily the best examples of the sport.
Club basketball offers little defense, less coaching, questionable effort and often shows how unskilled players are on the perimeter. And 7-on-7 football seems to be following suit in offering a product that bears little resemblance to actual football, especially at the club level. Fundamentals are often the first casualty of these competitions. It’s often more about trying to make a highlight play.
It also amplifies the sport’s hanger-ons, which is never a good thing.

Alot of these verbal commitments dont really mean much yet. There is going to be alot of movement by players late in the season or right before commitment day. It will all come down to how the season goes.
Georgia is going to be in the top 3 no matter what.
Ohio State will be in the top 5 no matter what.
Alabama will be top 5 no matter what.
USC, Texas, Texas A&M, Clemson, Oregon, Tennessee, Auburn, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma could all be in the top 5 if they have a great season. There are still alot of top 100 players that are uncommitted and even the ones that are verbally committed might flip.
Its a new world order with little to no loyalty.

Travel ball has been around for forty years in it’s current format since Slam-N-Jam conducted tournaments in the Southern California area gyms. It was the replacement for the AAU tournaments which were restricted to senior high school teams. They were known as showcases to highlight particular players as opposed to AAU which highlighted teams.
7 on 7 decided to follow basketball and highlight players as opposed to campus which were recruiting sales pitches done by schools like they were selling time shares. Now Wolf thinks these are a waste of time but there are some good outside the bad because some kids are not held back and mature late but being at a showcase event and being dominant gets you offered. Example? Manasse Itete.

UCLA struggles to recruit because of their lack of support for these events and providing coaches to see players perform in person. It’s expensive and the rules are bizarre. Since your lack of intelligence was exposed by you (translation: don’t get mad because your ignorant about what goes on at these summer events) I’m going to try and relieve you about why need to comment was unnecessary. So every player UCLA wants performs at the summer events. In both sports. Other coaches and schools will send ex players or ex coaches to speak with the players and families at these events to get an edge over lazy schools like UCLA. The rest, is history. Maybe UCLA can ask for a pause on the money owed to Cal-Berkeley to send out their coaches and be more visible to potential students.

This World you remember Slam – Jam you are a basketball avaint of HS sports. If you remember those teams were glorified young prima dona All Star teams but we’re loyal to their local high school. It wasn’t a lot of transfers back then. I played and against those teams. They was better players than today because we got great coaching not it’s all about me generation.
