When I mentioned USC cornerback Christian Roland-Wallace is moving to nickelback a couple weeks ago, I forgot to throw in one other issue: Does anyone really think Roland-Wallace transferred from Arizona to USC to play nickel back?
He came to USC thinking a high-profile program would raise his draft prospects and for the NIL money. He also figured he would start at cornerback since he is more experienced and established than anyone who plays cornerback at USC.
But that’s the difference between USC and Arizona. Roland-Wallace had no competition at Arizona. USC has plenty of athletes, even if they aren’t consistent corners. So coaches have the luxury of moving players around or even benching them because there are always options.
Speaking of nickel backs, former USC defensive back Latrell McCutchin has transferred to Houston. There are at least three former USC players on the Cougars’ roster: McCutchin, tailback Brandon Campbell and wide receiver Joseph Manjack.
- It’s not Friday, but it is Sela Ward’s birthday, the actress who happened to be an Alabama cheerleader. So time for a history photo.

Ward was a cheerleader for the 1975 and 1976 football seasons, which means she just missed the USC-Alabama games in 1977-78.
But she was at No. 16-ranked Alabama’s 36-6 victory over No. 7-ranked UCLA in the 1976 Liberty Bowl.
I’ll trade you 3 ‘Bama cheerleaders for 1 SC cheerleader

I will take that trade LJ. You would actually give up Sela Ward! Ms. Ward looks like she has had very little work done through the years. Still looks great.

Sela doesn’t move me. Taste in women is like taste in art or music–
Everyone sees it differently (fortunately)

Your right about different tastes. I always thought Barbara Streisand was beautiful. Loved her in “The Way We Were.” My brothers thought I was nuts.

So true. I felt the same way about Freddy Mercury. Give me some alone time with him and I would have been one very happy boy.

SC has a bevy of DBs, so moving them all around will be the theme of fall camp. The competition will go all the way until the first game. They will have 2 or 3 rotations at NB, CB n safety will be the same or look for at 3 players to transfer ditto: P. Brown, Williams, J. Smith, Gordon, Beavers. These players are not developing fast enough with the, exception of Williams just not big enough to play Safety or NB, 5-8 is not going to cut it. Smith, Williams have taken the most snaps of all of them but was replaced by others. So I see a lot of players rotating for the first 2 games so the competition can be settled by performance not an entitlement.

I meant to say at least 5 transfer because look at the incoming recruits a lot of DB’s, so the writing is on the wall. Come fall camp COMPETE, COMPETE COMPETE!!!!!!

So something I missed in the newspaper talk- probably because I saw it this morning- the SCNG (Scott’s former playground) has bought a foreign paper. They now own the San Diego Union Tribune. When my wife and I moved to San Marcos, we looked into subscribing, but it never happened because neighbors told us the old guy at the end of the street collected all the newspapers delivered in the morning. We also found the local paper SDUT to be very San Diego-no news beyond Temecula.
Anyway it’s safe to assume a player with cornerback speed will make a great nickel back. Or maybe he doesn’t want Donte as a coach. (As some haters will say)

That idiot Donte Williams knows nothing about coaching, he was hired as a recruiter.

Wallace is big for a corner, over 200 lbs, he runs a 4.5 plus 40. He played boundary corner at Arizona, but USC is probably looking for more speed at that position, hence he is playing the nickel. At his size and strength, he is almost a hybrid corner-safety.

I heard Eric Gentry is now up to 225 LBs….. definitely much needed.

225! It’ll be nice to see him play the entire season —not get injured half way through and be 50% when he gets back…

We had the odd couple playing ILB last season. Gentry was underweight and Shane Lee was overweight.

Speed without durability and durability without speed…. I know you know which is which…

FOR SURE!
I am curious to see how Lee is going to fit in with the arrival of some better players. I was actually surprised he took the extra covid year.
