Five-Star Wide Receiver Commits To Tennessee

Five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews of Lilburn, Ga., committed to Tennessee.

His other finalists were Georgia, Clemson, and USC. He is ranked the No. 1 “athlete” in the Class of 2024 by Rivals.

USC was considered a long shot so it was no surprise.

Next up: Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa announces his commitment on Sunday. Ohio State, USC and Notre Dame are the finalists.

  1. SHTOINK! SUCC takes another no thanks shot in their recruiting shorts.

    1. And he didn’t even consider our shitty football program which must really suck even more for USC, especially since they are already loaded at so many skill positions.

  2. Great news! The receiver room has expanded to the point where there is some trouble closing the door….I detect some bloat

    1. LHF,
How’s the recruiting going for chipper and the gutties? 60th or so is pretty legit, especially for a never win anything dumpster fire of a program.

      1. You old biddy, Chip is doing well enough.

Div. 1 FB teams need real players than can/will block and tackle Helton; not greedy 5 star bloated stiffs with dubious talent and glutinous feeding habits that currently load LR’s 2023, slug, 8-4, FB roster.

#Eighty-three WR’s and one rock in the hands of Glory Hog QB.

        Yikes, WTF!!!, Helton.

  3. Matthews and Tatum are wants, not needs. I’d rather see them get one of those elite D-Linemen that SC is still in the running for or the LB from Bosco. The more skilled defensive people we can get, the better. We need depth on defense because when you have a quick scoring offense like we have, many times the defense doesn’t get any rest so you need quality fresh substitutes.

    1. …and a little quality coaching on the backend of the defense wouldn’t hurt either…

      1. True but you have to get them here first before you can coach them. Hopefully, Donte will evolve into a great DB’sa coach.

      2. How much would you say in percentages, MG,
        compose coaching v natural talent.
Not to be silly, but if an SC coach taught me tackling
I still would look as if a scared matador out there

      3. A coach can’t teach athletic ability. It comes naturally and increased through preparation and repetition. MG has confused the limitations of a coach with a player’s ability and or respondsiblity to make a play at a given moment.

      4. I think that a lot of the tackling problem is fatique. They had good players last year. They just didn’t have a lot of them. Many times when you have a great offense(not a grind it out offense like Oregon State) that scores quickly, you will see a poor defense. That’s because they don’t have quality back ups who they can bring in to keep players fresh. The quick scoring offense doesn’t give the defense much time to rest. When they are fatigued, they miss tackles. I don’t think that they will have that problem this year.

      5. No, you wouldn’t, John. I think I know you well enough to say you’d make the tackle even if it killed you.

  4. Helton, UCLA’s blocking and tackling were ok; but the passing game is another story.

Helton there is one big difference, UCLA didn’t scream and shout they belonged in the 2022 CFP like Clown U and then, and then, choka, choka, choka, choka, choka, choka, choke in Vegas and in the Cotton Picker/Picking Bowl.

#Hairball U…What a feeble joka, joka, joka, joke!

    1. Admittedly, the Trojan faithful got a little greedy last season, eyeballing the playoff. The roster was an ad hoc throw together and wasn’t ready for prime time defensively. What they achieved was a total turn around compared to previous years, hence the unbridled optimism. The fans know that they are slowly building into a team that CAN contend. Nothing wrong with that – it’s been a long drought. As a quasi Trojan fan Owns, (I don’t follow them as close as you do) I think you can appreciate that.

  5. The team could have/should have lost at Oregon St and maybe the sucla game too,
so there was a measure of luck built-in to the 2022 SC run

    1. Actually, we should have won both Utah (first game) and Tulane. Lost each game in the final minute, if I recall correctly.

The first Utah game would have been out of reach except for horrible referee calls that really changed the game.

      Oregon State was lucky.

Caleb has grown alot since the first part of the season.

    2. …and, forgive me my brother, but there was definitely a lot of BAD luck in both Utah games…. and let’s never forget Mister Bad Luck himself, Mario Williams, giving away the Cotton Bowl…..

      2. That was last year, Michael, it is so refreshing to start a new

  6. there are going to be alot of players changing their minds as the season progresses. there will be some teams that just dont perform and players will decommit. Tennessee is a big question mark. Was Hendon Hooker the main reason for that great season, or is the coaching staff really at an elite level? who knows?

i think the players coming to USC are pretty solid. our NIL is going to get more solid as time progresses and maybe the new collective association can start to set guidelines for NIL that reign in pay for play.

USC’s receiver room is pretty stacked, although I expect alot of turnover after this year.
