Lincoln Riley gave a professional performance at Pac-12 media day. He broke out some cliches and didn’t say anything crazy. Which is what you would expect at a media day.

On the difference of being in Year 2 at USC: “We’re not focused on the beginning part of the climb, we’re focused on getting to the mountain top.”
What USC fans should expect? “What they should expect is a group that is hungrier than ever to continue to take the steps back to where, this program, in our opinion, rightfully should be.”
Riley was asked if there is melancholy because this is the final year in the Pac-12. He said there is but he would be lying if he wasn’t looking forward to the future in the Big Ten.
REACTION: I suspect he isn’t really looking forward to next year’s schedule.
On the defensive transfers: “We wanted guys that were really dying to be a part of this program.”
Caleb Williams talked about new receiver Dorian Singer’s performance against USC last season. “He made a bunch of great catches, and I looked over at one of our coaches and said ‘After this season, are we gonna go get him?’ ”
- Utah coach Kyle Whittingham had the line of the morning: “The acoustics in here are horrible. What is this a night club?”
- Taylor Tatum, the No. 1-ranked tailback in the nation according to 247, committed to Oklahoma over USC. That ought to please Oklahoma fans for about five minutes.

I think that he wanted to stay closer to home. I’m still undecided about this HC of Oklahoma. Is he really going to turn out to be a great HC or just another great co-ordinator who isn’t HC-ing material like Norm Chow.
