USC Notes: Picture Of The Day

Here’s a third picture of the dog that invaded the USC-UCLA game in 1963.

USC’s Bill Morris and UCLA’s Jack Hirsch look on in this photo. And there is a KNX radio banner courtside.

Was this dog ever considered to become the next George Tirebiter?

  • Look at all the open space in the below photo behind the baseline. There are only two photographers (dressed in sport coats and ties, of course). In games today, you would have a clutter of people taking photos and wouldn’t know who half of them are taking the pictures for?
  • For weeks, I heard USC was in the running for Taylor Tatum, the No. 1-ranked tailback in the nation.

But he is rated a four-star prospect by Rivals and 247. Rivals has him the No. 3 tailback while 247 has him No. 1.

There is not a five-star tailback in the country according to the two recruiting services.

  • After practicing at the Coliseum for several days this week, FC Barcelona canceled its game vs. Juventus FC at Levi’s Stadium because part of the squad had viral gastroenteritis.

Barcelona play Arsenal on Wednesday at SoFi Stadium.

  1. I spent all day on this blog making dumb comments because I hate myself and I don’t have much of a social life. Although I’m not gay.

    1. Now we know why ‘Celeb’ and Cobb were chosen to attend the Pac-12 Conference extravaganza– those ol’ boys cannot only play,
      they talk pretty nicely too

NO BOX SCORES IS A SHUTOUT

I am very familiar with the issue of box scores in the L.A. Times. I covered prep sports under the great Gary Klein (1999-2000), wrote a millenium piece about the greatest high school athletes in Southland history, and penned “The Life and Los Angeles Times of Jim Murray” (2013). I grew up with the Times. It was under Otis Chandler and with Jim Murray, the greatest and most subscribed paper in the world. When those two left the scene it went downhill and never has returned. The reason you stopped box scores is to save money, and the reason you are running out of money is because you failed to heed lessons of Chandler, Murray and legendary sports editor Bill Dwyre; never lose touch with your readership.

The politics of the paper is a joke and a lie. That is why people stopped reading it. The sports page as constituted was my last reason for laughing through the “news” until I got to the sports page. Now wokeness has finally reached sports, and that is why the once-dominant West is now second rate, as is the Times. Good luck deluding yourselves otherwise.

    1. Right-o and cheerio, mate–
I stopped subscribing to the Times after decades when it was unabatedly bashing Trump in the 2020 race
and I didn’t even respect the guy,
but I dislike unbrideled political bias in all its forms

      1. Check this out Sparrow, editors, like network moguls, have political ties, Fox News is far right Extremist who use their platform to produce their proppaganda for Repubs. Dems use MSNBC for their far left progressive attitudes n propaganda. We are in a era where print is out of touch with today’s time. Everyone is on device not wanting to pay $2.75 for advertisement and less stories. Get over it, Sparrow
