The Pac-12 presented an all-streaming deal with Apple to the schools this morning and there are a lot of questions but here is the biggest: Can the Pac-12 sell enough subscriptions to make the deal worth enough money to keep its members together?
The Pac-12 is going to have to sell a certain number of subscriptions on Apple TV to match or even surpass the Big 12 media rights deal. Who is going to buy those subscriptions?
DirecTV never felt the need to add the Pac-12 Network because there was no pressure from its subscribers to add it. Pac-12 fans are not Big Ten or SEC fans. I don’t see this deal becoming a winner financially.
Apple has sold 800,000 subscriptions to its MLS TV package. The Pac-12 won’t touch those numbers.
The only solace is that despite its deal with Apple, the MLS also signed a deal with Fox Sports to air 34 regular season games so Pac-12 games might still find themselves on traditional cable TV.
- The worst part of all this is the slippery eel, Jedd the Fisch, at Arizona.
“‘We’re going to know something soon, and we’re in a position where people want us.’ … We’re going to be in a great spot and not even flinch,” he said today.
But here is what he said at Pac-12 media day one year ago when asked about USC and UCLA moving to the Big Ten.
“I hope what it does when parents are making decisions on wanting to watch their children play, they don’t have to get on a plane and fly to Newark, fly to Iowa, fly to Ann Arbor. They get to get in a car, drive five and a half hours, and next thing you know they’re at Arizona.”
The PAC 12 and the PAC 12 Network just need to give it up, no one wants to televise PAC 12 football games.
Maybe YouTube will air the games for free…LOL!

You can get the MLS for free if you have T-Mobile, same with the MLB.
Wouldn’t pay 1 cent to watch the Pac 12

I am amazed that Fox didn’t come up with an offer. I would say everyone is going to run now. No matter what you hear, Oregon will not be going into the B1G. Maybe the Big12 or ACC.

I predicted this deal on July 19 thread, regarding WAC 12 TV deal. I was trying to be funny but it’s actually true. The real deal is how many subscriptions are paid in full before the season starts for 2024. N It will incrementally increase or decrease depending on, if they meet the baseline quota Apple has laid out for Commish. So it will be a series of one year deals so Apple can cut their losses if it not making money. WAC football is dead. Now Oregon Washington Utah must settle for the Big 12 along with AZ ASU. And Cal Stanford Oregon St Washington St go to the MW where Stanford can be an at large team if the play in CFP, only if they beat a real ranked team. Jshmfh about you GK. Hail to the victors of navigating the expansion fever.

Fish makes a great point about going to a live game. It is getting to the point where most folks can’t afford to go see live games. Even local teams like SC, dodgers, lakers ect. The ticket prices are astronomical. I will only go if offered a ticket and then I’m still reluctant to go because I know I’ll have to buy concessions for at least two people which ends up costing more than buying a single ticket to a game.

The Pac 12 is the Bud Light of conferences and nobody wants to be the first to make the offer. #Toxic

Sole chance the rump end of the Pac? has for even a modicum of survival, is to somehow merge with the ACC or it’s over. Best part is ‘Legoland’ getting what they always wanted ….’control’ – control of nothing.

So that stick from Europe is going to lead UCLA to a championship? You don’t know basketball, you don’t know sports and you still don’t know what you’re talking about, except how lonely you are without a woman. Isaiah Collier has a life, can you say that? What a Trump-like chump.
