Saturday Buzz: USC And Oregon Forever Together

Lincoln Riley downplayed the significance of Oregon and Washington moving into the Big Ten.

“Our university and leadership made the decision to go into the future with the Big Ten after this season because it was the best thing for USC,” he said. “It was not contingent on any other schools, on anything else.”

The reality is there are enough recruits to go around in Southern California for USC and Oregon.

It’s also true USC coaches have used the Big Ten move with local recruits to see if it would make an impression. Every school looks for advantages.

USC freshman offensive lineman Micah Banuelos said playing in the Big Ten was a factor in his decision. On the other hand, it didn’t stop Oregon from getting cornerback Rodrick Pleasant of Gardena Serra. Oregon currently has six commitments from Southern California for the Class of 2024.

The fact Oregon is joining the Big Ten too shouldn’t matter much in terms of recruiting. It will make a difference because now USC will probably play the Ducks every year. And now games can be played at 7:30 p.m. PT.

There’s also a bit of a letdown in that USC and UCLA spent 12 months planning this big move and now it’s going to see Oregon and Washington. So less of those ballyhooed Big Ten games against teams like Wisconsin, Penn State or Iowa.

That all pales next to the shabby way Oregon State and Washington State come out of all this. We’ve got two conferences ruling the sport, which is not ideal, even if you’re team is in a Super League.

The Big Ten seems too obsessed with the SEC. It panicked and took Oregon/Washington when there was no pressing need to do it. They aren’t adding TV revenue and they make scheduling more difficult. Neither school really had anywhere to go either.

But the Big Ten thinks it needs them to keep up with the SEC.

No letdown at all. It’s probably better. This way USC and UCLA will probably spend less time traveling and less time playing in those monster winters. If they want to bring in Stanford and Cal, that would be fine with me. You would have a mini Pac-12 inside the Big 10 only getting more money than when they were in the big Pac-12.

    1. Fuck the cold and the travel. That is such bullshit and a cop out excuse in case they lose. Both teams play in the the same cold. They have heaters and parkas with tons of layers under the jerseys. These are kids, the travel has no effect on them, they sleep, party, study, and prepare during the flights. At my age flying to the east coast has little effect, it is only 3 hours difference. Quit looking for excuses, USC got exactly what they wanted, into the B1G, to play with the big boys. So now they just have to put on their big boy pants and go win an NC.

      3. There’s one big thing bozo BB and FB can’t stand ’49: Real hardboiled, head-to-head competition.

Slaughtering Cupcake opponents is Clown U BB and FB bread and butter victories …….I mean if they don’t win by 24 BB points or more or win by 3 or 4 TD’s, the SUCC cupcake juggernaut has failed its drunk, rapid, rah-rah, thumbs down fans.

The B-18 stinks of real competition. The bozos have left their small pond for MO’ $$$$$$$ and they will pay for it (no pun intended) in routine, pathetic losses and regular Vegas type humiliating debacles.

I can’t think of Div. 1 athletic program that deserves it more than the arrogant, jive jumping, towel waving, jumping up and down, high- five slapping routine tackle celebrations/disco dancing, than the HOLLYWOOD FB CLOWNSTER’S.

Soon, Andyain’twinning will be kicking himself for not taking the Maryland job as the bozo BB losses pile up against the mean and solid B-18, stiff BB competition. No B-18 cupcakes to prop up the loser, moribund bozo BB program.

      4. True….”both teams play in the same cold” but one teams lives in it 12 months a year. Cold will effect a team that is not used to it just like heavy humidity and elevation effects the teams that are not used to it. Look at Utahs record at home compared to their record on the road. Last year they were 6-0 at home and 4-4 on the road. Of their 4 road wins. Of their 4 wins on the road, 3 were against ASU, WSU and Colorado and the 4th one was against USC and they wouldn’t not have won that game had Caleb not gotten hurt. But Utah has 2 of those elements(cold and elevation) when they are at home.

And true I could not get into Northwestern with my grades,
I was lucky to get out of SC and would not qualify today.
        But the saying goes,
“College is 3 1/2 years of your life. What are you going to do with the rest of it”

‘Sparrow Calypso’ was a moniker inadvertently given to me by Scott Wolf, and with the passing of Mr. Calypso it seemed appropriate to keep Harry Belafonte’s memory living on — (“And on-and-on”)

  3. One item that could be adversely affected is the 12-team playoff
It is likely that 4 teams each from the “Big-10” and SEC will be chosen
So the fans will get a lot of teams’ re-runs from the just completed season
    much like last year’s SC-Utah 1 and 2

And BTW, little guys that scamper like Lloyd tend to fumble because they lose control of the ball keeping their juking balance, and, they also tend to get popped from odd, blind angles forcing the ball to squirt loose…i.e. FUMBLE!

But if you bozo rah-rah’s wish to rely on a juking, midget RB, knock yourselves out. I don’t see any major change in the Vegas debacle score had Lloyd had been in the LR/Destroyer’s lineup.

  4. The seeds of the demise of the PAC-12 were sown with the abuse of USC in the late Pete Carroll era. USC was a historic national power and rather than compete with and celebrate those accomplishments, the NCAA and the other PAC-12 schools watched the southeastern racketeers concoct a lengthy “investigation” and over the top punishment in order to undermine our program. The PAC-12 never recovered and USC is just recently getting our heads out of the grave. Meanwhile, athletic and academic scandals have been rampant throughout the NCAA with little or no accountability. Add in the absolutely awful PAC-12 network marketing and management that sapped potential revenue and it’s not surprising that the PAC-12 has become irrelevant

      2. It started in late 2004 when Slive said an undefeated SEC team would never be left out of the BCS Title game again. He also made in a “policy” that SEC schools do not report infractions against each other for the common good of the conference. That is why he despised Kiffin who accused Urban Meyer of recruiting violations. Slive worked in the PAC 8 back in 1980 when 4 or 5 of the schools were on probation. He saw the damage it could have. Protected Cam Newton because of this.

        Liked by 1 person

    2. You are 100% correct about the SEC involvement. I would love to see the late Mike Slive’s emails. The tip off for me was when one of the Infraction Committee members made a statement that “USC doesn’t get it. Miami hired Paul Dee to clean up their problems (which is laughable) while USC hires Lane Kiffin”. At that point in time, there were only two people in America that had that much hatred toward Kiffin. Al Davis and Mike Slive, who wouldn’t even refer to him by name. I also have a sneaking suspicion Oregon was involved in this as look at their program immediately after the sanctions plus the kid gloves treatment they received on the Willie Lyles stuff. The NCAA is a Criminal Enterprise and got away with it. Many laughed at Mike Garrett when he said there just all jealous that they’re not Trojans. In hindsight, no greater truth was ever spoken.

Insulting a court, a la the Orange Donald or “Emperor” Garrett, is a witless approach to getting a fair trial presided by an odd disinterested judge. “Emperor” Garrett’s “Jealous’ remark just comes off so damn “eat my shorts,” arrogant that it would piss off Mr. Green Jeans or Soupy Sales.

On the other hand, I might post Dumpster U SUCC’s or maybe Andyain’twinning’s bozo BB or LR/FB SUCC’s.

When I comes to Clown U Sparrow, I’m a schadenfreude SUCC’er for their boundless bozo choka, choka, choka wretched, humiliating debacle losses.

I’m still pissed Kiffy Goat got tarmacked by the immaculate St. Patsy.

Kiffy Goat and my bozo schadenfreude were so synergistic.

    1. Mother Hubbard ’67, that 4 star, Liam Campbell!? Is there even one BB court located in bum-f**k Idaho? As usual Andyain’twinning is recruiting at the bottom of the loser barrel.

And ’67, against what sort of BB competition did L. Campbell achieve his fab, 4 star status.

Just asking for the bozo BB bandwagoners.

Cue: bonny’s two finger rendition of “Chop Sticks.”

    2. The Bruins, ’67, just signed Berke Buyuktuncel, the 6’9” Turkish All-Star. He’s a much superior BB recruit to Idaho’s 4 star(????), 2024, 76th US ranked 6′ 4″ shooting guard, Liam Campbell.

Whoopee, just some Andyain’twinning’s old fashion, bottom of the barrel loser BB recruiting.

So in the last two days Coach Cronin has signed two (2) special BB recruits; the 7’3″ center, Aday Mara and 6’9″ forward, Berke Buyuktuncel for the 2023 season.

Andyain’twinning is in Grease wandering around hoping to locate Grecian Cupcake opponents for his chump, inferior, bozo BB team.

#Meanwhile, bonny, the bozo 7 star, A-LIST, BB recruit, bangs out a two (2) finger “Chop Sticks” while being fed Daddy’s Beluga Caviar by two (2) Hollywood bimbo cum nurses. Life is so tough at the LeBron’s my Ta-Ta household.

#Will Andyain’twinning try to employ LeBron as a bozo BB Asst. Coach?

#Just asking for the 375, breath holding, bozo BB bandwagoners.

    1. Cal will go with OSU and WSU to the mountain west. May be a really good move. That conference will most likely get a CFP bid every year when it expands to 12 teams. Cal can be at the top of that conference with a fairly decent sales pitch to Cali recruits. The hard part is getting the alumni and fan base excited, they really haven’t done that for a long time.

We can’t afford the MW. Too many financial obligations. If we don’t get absorbed by the B1G then we are sunk.
Furd will go indie. Osu Wsu will go MW.
Cal is odd man out. Managerial incompetence.

        One year left.

        I’m on suicide watch.

  14. Its going to be two divisions of seven games within the division and one game against the other division. They already have the format from what they’ve announced for the 2024 season. This exploitation is about keeping the SEC out of Los Angeles.

      1. SUCC really, really tried hard, but of course, as usual, Dumpster U failed miserably.

Somethings just never or will ever change will they MG?

Somewhere on earth it’s 14 to 9 am or pm.

What’s St. Patsy doing these dog day’s of August, Clownsters.
