Nate Frazier, the No. 1-ranked all-purpose running back in the nation per Rivals, committed to Georgia.
Why is this relevant? Because he goes to Mater Dei High School.
I’m not sure how hard USC really recruited Frazier but there’s definitely something amiss in that USC-Mater Dei pipeline these days. Cornerback Zabien Brown recently committed to Alabama and offensive lineman Brandon Baker is supposed to commit to Oregon (he doesn’t’ list USC among his final choices).
Georgia and Alabama getting Mater Dei players? I thought USC’s move to the Big Ten was supposed to shut down stuff like this?
This is a Ted Tollner redo. PC put a fence around California, he took or coach O, the cream, now they flee

Maybe the new Mater Dei coach hates USC!?

USC didn’t want or need Frazier. And why would anyone go to Oregon over USC except for a cash payment for signing. Baker will likely regret the decision. We don’t need him either. We will find a better player in the portal.

They didn’t want or need him, but they still offered him a ride…interesting….

Is Frazier better than Raleek Brown? No. Both are little guys that can’t pass block. Brown will have limited touches and will ultimately end up in the transfer portal. There are players who you offer and vigorously pursue and some that you just offer.
Frazier is the latter.

Oregon is 11 – 7 vs bozo FB since 10/24/1998.
Would it be fair to assume that a MD recruit considering both Clown U and Oregon offers prefer playing for a winner, instead of a SUCC FB team that routinely choka, choka, choka chokes in major, must win competitive, FB games?

You missed an even better stat, J.O– Since Carroll left in 2009 the record is
Oregano 6
SC 2

And yet we’re ranked in the top10 in recruiting and the ruins aren’t in it for the MDHS guys either.. hmmm
Is it because chocolate chip still eats his way thru the donut recruiter budget before the kids get to his office?
Heard your 5* qb isn’t happy with his NIL deal.. talk of him walking.. hahahaaha

Too bad there aren’t any other power house high schools in the area, oh wait….

Frazier was never a priority. We have some great backs.
I am of the opinion that this team is going to be epic and we have a run to the CFP with only a few speedbumps. There is going to be a huge amount of movement in recruits by the end of the year.
We will have much better depth of returning players next year. Receivers, linebackers, running backs, defensive backfield have lots of talented players. The freshman class on the o-line needs to get reps, but looks much better than the star ratings. I am most worried that between Moss and Nelson, we dont have a starting QB for next year.

It’s obvious to even casual fans we need a first magnitude QB to compete with LSU, Notre Dame and the Big 10 in 2024— Riley knows it & he’ll get one…..

They could have gotten Frazier if the wanted him. They didn’t seem to and I’m not sure why…..he’s an outstanding back.

Seems like they preferred bigger backs this cycle.
But it could also be that he just wasn’t interested from the get go. That just happens too.

He’s 5’11” and 208. That’s pretty good size. He was interested. They could have gotten him. He’s a good running back. They just didn’t want him.

He doesn’t look that big on the field. Not nearly.

He’s definitely 208. You’re right….the 5’11” could be an exaggeration. But it’s not, like Scott says , that the Mater Dei line is broken. Not in his case. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to go to SC. It was SC didn’t want him. He’s an outstanding back. He’s got sprinters speed. Georgia would not have offered him if he wasn’t that good.

Brandon Baker had a brother that played for Oregon. Zabien Brown grew up in Texas and always wanted to play for Alabama. How is Riley supposed to overcome a weak NIL program for high school players and Alex Grinch? Transfer portal Wolf, transfer portal.

TW, until we really show we can develop players on the OL, DL LB, DB, which doesn’t come through the portal that will be a disadvantage for elite local recruits. This year’s team will be better on defense, I’ like how LR is challenging his player’s to embrace competition. I hope this translates into making each player realize this is how championship teams become champions. #PlayerDevelopmentIncreasesDraftStatus#RecruitsNoticeIfYouDevelopPlayersDespiteNIL#ThereIsOnlySoMuchA$CanBuyRealignmentConstantPlayerNConferenceExpansionWho’sNextToMove

To be honest, the IRS made a change in deductions allowed and boosters can’t write off cash donations to high school kids but students in college are still a write-off. So we gotta say a it’s a Biden thingy on this one. I know Riley is irked and disappointed.

Depends on your definition of recent. Bryce Young to Alabama was some time back. That’s about when it started. My guess is it is much better now than it was then. CCH is gone. But it will take some time to fully shut down the leaky faucet.

Coach Rollinson is gone and he was our link to the school. He probably helped sell the program. With that said, I’m hoping we can make that re-connection next cycle and beyond. A lot will depend on how the team performs, particularly on defense. My other thought is while we want to build a fence around California, the product on the field is the best advertisement. Winning and winning big sells.
