A Reminder Why College Football Is King

If you need an illustration of how much bigger college football is than college basketball, here’s Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark.

“I’m a firm believer that basketball is undervalued,” he told the Ourand-Marchand podcast. “Basketball is about 25 percent of the total audience. We’re not getting 25 cents on the dollar for basketball.”

So college football gets 75 percent of the audience and more than 75 percent of the TV revenue? Football is king.

That’s one reason why USC, which is a football school, was coveted by the Big Ten.

Keep in mind Yormark has a basketball background (he worked for the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets), so he’s actually sympathetic to basketball.

  • Condoleezza Rice (Stanford) and George W. Bush (SMU) have reportedly contacted ACC officials to lobby for those schools to get invited to the conference. Is this what college football has come to? Yes.

    1. Yeah 9000, FB is King, like “the Donald.” And with all bozo BS about the Crumbling Mausoleum FB attendance arrogance, UCLA is going the Big-18 as a full share member from day one (1) 2024.

The UCLA B-18 equal share deal has just gotta stick in bozo FB Program’s Craw.

9000, how about you marinate on UCLA’s sticking a fork in the Clown U “shvine-hoond” ass.

      Cue: “Oh Happy Day”

  1. Stanford, with $69 billions in the bank, is recruiting Condoleeza Rice to lobby the ACC? If they were serious, then they could buy Clemson and Florida St for $1 billion and form a 10 team conference with Clemson, FSU, Memphis, SDSU, Boise St, SMU, the Pac4refugees and have Spectrum (Charter) or ESPN as a broadcast partner along with AppleTV bringing in their “Star Trek” tv package. Olympic sports would be saved and they could go back to being elitists.

      2. No one knows why you keep up with these incredibly lame attempts at humor, Gabriela. Too stupid to have noticed you’re the only one who finds them funny. And so stupid you won’t let that stop you. As many others have said, get help.

    1. One silver lining, whoever gets the start will not have to endure 100k fans on the road in one of the loudest stadiums in college football “The Swamp”

  2. Enjoy this last season and hope that USC gives the dying Pac-12 a NC in this SEC rigged playoff format. I wish we’d stay or going independent. I assume there are costs associated with any decision to leave but there is the option to do just that which I hope a new AD looks at very closely because I don’t think, long term, this massive collection of teams and shrinkage of conferences is going to work.

    1. There is an old saying,

When you marry for money, you’re going to have to earn it. I wonder how this SC / southern branch will work out years down the road.

Just make sure the $10M check doesn’t bounce.

  3. Scooter,

You said USC was coveted by the B1G conference because it is a football school. My question is, then why is ugly going to the B1G conference knowing that they suck at football, basketball, baseball, men’s water polo, track, and tiddlewinks. SC stomps on the redheaded step child (ugly) all the time.

  4. 3 of USC’s 7 Home Games are before the Rams or Chargers even open the season. 2 of these likely in 95-100 degree mid to late afternoon heat. Add in the NIL environment and I need to ask myself if I really want to attend Semi-Pro games in these conditions.
