Tim Ryan is a radio analyst for the San Francisco 49ers.
He went viral Saturday night talking about 49ers QB Sam Darnold.
“Sam is way more mobile than people give him credit for,” Ryan said. “Remember all those USC days, what he did down there with Pete Carroll.”
Carroll was long gone by the time Darnold came to USC. I doubt too many people commenting on the gaffe even realize Ryan played at USC and was a two-time All-American.
But hey, stuff happens.

Much of Gabby’s stuff represents carefully & cleverly worded apologies for dem failures ….but 50% is very personal, off the wall batshit crazy talk.
I can’t forget the lack of heart he demonstrated over the Maui fire. Whatever sentiments anybody who lived here expressed on this blog should have been treated with a tiny bit of compassion.
The guy knows his sports and he knows his gambling — signs of smarts and, maybe, an overabundance of killer instinct.

Austin Jones on Miller Moss:
“Miller could play and start at any other college and probably be a contender for the Heisman as well,” Jones said. “His integrity and what he does and everything that he does every single day. I mean, he comes in and works hard, lifts hard, does everything the right way, and I think it’s gonna show for him eventually. His leadership and what he brings, it’s kind of the similar situation to me last year, as far as Miller cares more about the team itself than it is just about the individual.”

I think Moss will start next year and play very well. He doesn’t have the athleticism of Caleb but that doesn’t mean he can’t be an elite quarterback. He is more athletic than that Brady guy and he did okay. And Bennett lead Georgia to two titles and Moss may be more athletic than him. The key is whether he can quickly read the defense and accurately deliver the ball in three seconds like Brady, Montana, and Marino.

Just good was Caleb’s season last year? He broke 9 USC records, including 503 yards of total offense (only fitting it was versus the gutties):

Question: How many yards of total did Reggie get against Fresno Sate? It seems he was running for 30 or 40 yards every other play.

Michael, excellent call, 513 yards for Reggie versus Fresno, but his return yardages don’t count in the offensive yard total. One of the most impressive performances, for sure.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Don’t you think returns should count in yardage? Okay, it’s special teams but it’s still yardage. That year Adoree beat Notre Dame more or less by himself Notre Dame wound up with more yardage than we did —

‘RUMOR:’
Notre Dame Expected To Join Notable Power 5 Conference And End Their Long Independent Run In Division I
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are now expected to bring their independent run in the NCAA to an end and join the oldest Division I conference.
The Athletic’s Manny Navarro is predicting that the program will eventually end up in the Big Ten, having tried to join said conference on several occasions in the mid-20th century but getting rejected due to its Catholic association.
Notre Dame has since stuck to its lone stance and remains one of four independent universities in the country. Even when the realignment of college programs took form in the 1980s, with several other independent schools joining conferences, the Fighting Irish stayed intransigent.
The independent schedule does have its perks. Notre Dame is involved in rivalries with the likes of Stanford, USC, Navy, Michigan, and Michigan State, among others. And, while they’re required to play five ACC teams every season, their schedules are always interesting.
“Once Florida State finds a loophole to get out of the final 13 years of the ACC’s grant of rights agreement — and the folks in Tallahassee swear they will — a second Power 5 league exodus that affects play beginning with the 2025 season will commence,” Navarro writes.
“Eventually, the Big Ten, to keep the Irish from joining the SEC, will give into Notre Dame’s demands and allow Stanford and Cal a seat at the Big Ten table — only after the league expands to 26 teams and goes from playing nine conference games to 11 will Notre Dame join the rebranded conference known simply as B1G.

Alv — The Big Ten shouldn’t worry about the SEC getting Notre Dame. I know I AM NOT worried — In fact, I think it would be Divine Justice.

I really hope that the B1G allows ND, Cal and Stanford. This would maintain some semblance of regional/west coast football and help with the travel and scheduling particularly with the minor sports. The Presidents want this to happen. The hang-up is that the Broadcasting companies don’t think Cal and Stanford are worth an additional 30 to 50 million per year. Perhaps if ND is thrown into the deal, it will cause them to re-evaluate.

What does that mean for the USC traditional rivalry game against Notre Dame? Every other year and only once every 4 e years here at the Coliseum?

Note what Navarro is claiming.. .FL St. is determined to leave the ACC and that means as the Pac12 imploded do shall the ACC.
This has a direct impact potentially with a list of candidates being proposed by a search firm per today’s Sunday 20th August LA Times by Brady McCullough’s article that USC has retained Parker Executive Search, to find a new AD. Their proposed candidates are the current athletic directors at: MN – Mark Coyle, FL Atl. – Brian White and FL St. – Michael Alford.
Note – FL St. can leave the ACC end of 2025 and, as noted, Alford is determined it shall happen.
All 3 look pretty good but so did Bohn.
See roday’s LA Times article by Brady McCullough on the efforts by USC per New athletic director.

I’ll bet WI faces MI for the Big 10 CCG as I’ll wager it’s USC vs. OR St. for the Pac12….not a typo – it’ll be OR St!
