USC-Nevada Live Blog

USC might actually cover, up 59-14.

  • Justin Dedich had a snap infraction, a holding penalty and bad snap that led to a fumble in the first half.
  • So it’s Shane Lee and Raesjon Davis at inside linebacker for the rest of the game.
  • Tackett Curtis, who tends to overplay on most plays, gets ejected for targeting.
  • It’s 28-7 and I predicted 63-14. I might be close at this rate.
  • Order has been restored as USC leads 21-7. It’s probably good USC is playing a bad team today.
  • Boy, the secondary is awful again today. Domani Jackson gives up a 73-yard pass in the first possession. Ceyair Wright gets beat on the second possession but the pass is dropped. When will Donte Williams be criticized by someone besides me?
  • And the scoring starts early, as Caleb Williams hits Zacariah Branch for a 22-yard TD.
  • Nevada wins toss and defers. USC will receive kickoff.
  • Raleek Brown is nowhere to be found during warm-ups. Did he already hit the portal?

Did it really have to turn this sour so soon? Lincoln Riley must really want him off the team.

  • Mason Cobb and Eric Gentry are out with injuries. Guess San Jose State was more physical than thought. Wait till USC plays Utah.
  • Jordan Addison is attending the game today.

  1. Regarding Brown, I thought he would have lasted at least the first four games. There’s more to football than trying to juke the guy in front at the same time losing yards

    1. After that Nevada touchdown, I am really wondering if there is any game that is not a shootout.

It almost feels like the longer players are coached by Grinch & Co, the worse they get.

  2. It’s an obvious fix for the corners . . .put in Covington. Safety help on the other corner. Force the qb to beat you while holding up against the rush. Bear is causing havoc. Maybe put Bear and Lucas inside on 3rd down or run more stunts.

In regards to Colorado. If you notice, the Colorado defenders can play with their back to the quarterback. That is something today’s players have an issue with. Or if you have a competent quarterback, he can distribute the ball or keep plays going and create opportunities. That’s what Shadeur does for that team.

    1. TW, what corners play with their back to the QB? This is the lost art in football college n pro. Buff’s gave up 42 pts, Hunter jumped an route at the goal line he had the TD back line as safety help. There are no shut down corners in college. I do see your point, because our DBs do get burned for big chunk plays or TDs. Tell me this are they getting burned because of poor techniques or lack of talent or lack of coaching proper hip, eye n body leverage? Answer that on the other thread please!!!

      1. So the best way to describe what’s going on Eric, with the defensive backs is leverage and physicality. If you compare how Blackmon played last year or Roland-Wallace plays is the use of physical play to have leverage and allow openings to become smaller or closed. Think of receivers as windows. Blackmon allowed small or no windows for passes to enter. The rest of these defensive backs have wide open windows because they can’t stay close or they react slow to the receivers hands. Why? It’s a lack of street smarts. So teams are teaching mirror and pop to disrupt. But All of the db’s are inconsistent. But the talent is there and with a 3rd string that can play, the bench looks like a giant mouse sticky-trap. Plus, Coach Brown is there to reinforce, explain and expose sloppy players so there is more accountability. Finally. Riley can force Grinch to answer problems during the game and not wait until the period breaks.

  4. Dangerous but still sloppy. Where’s Covington? I’m mean, really? Your most suspect corners are being put on islands? That’s bad coaching.

  5. Footwork for USC isn’t as well placed as the footwork for Colorado. Still playing with poor balance. Both sides of the ball. Much better at situational football but maybe due to the opponent?

    That would be hilarious!

  7. Now we know after that last defensive effort Davis is a starter, he can cover spy and tackle. Shane Lee looks like the freshman version let’s see if they can plug up the holes n the gaps. Still not seeing any improvement even though they have allowed 7 pts. Grinchy stop audible your defense. Now I see they are confused as the u are. Stupid penalty Sullivan.

  8. Can’t wait for Stanford. Let’s see if they can play defense without staring at the ball? That’s how you see how well coached they are on defense.

  9. Regardless of how you feel about Coach Prime, taking a 1-11 team and getting a win on the road against a Playoff finalist is impressive. In the first game, no less.

But, lack of depth is going to derail a potentially dramatic season of success.

    1. TW, Greene n Peevy will RS, along with Lemon, Nelson Lane because they don’t want to burn his Freshman year only if Caleb gets hurt. Knock on wood, all are key pieces moving forward. Brown looks ify, he might enter TSP or RS. Kinda of hoping he stays myself, he needs to look at Taj, if he looks at the big picture he should stay. SC offers more for him, than any other school be patient young man or go MW like S. Dollar of Nevada?

  10. Grinchy after this game I need your player’s to have a test on who knows every defensive audible you have in your stupid arsenal of audibles. Now I see what’s wrong it’s too many players don’t understand your defense that’s y recruits are not coming. They just want to play simple hard nose defense where their natural ability can be utilized to benefit the overall defense JMHO. Defensive Analyst what are you seeing? Get off Jackson ass, he will be alright once Donte gets canned . Made a great play on the sideline in the 2nd Qtr. Hopefully each player will be able to let their natural instincts takeover, more than the coaches schemes and techniques.

    1. regarding Jackson, I am judging him in real time. Hopefully, the future is better….you will not be a successful corner constantly playing with your back to the QB…poor technique

    2. Jackson needs to watch tape of Blackmon and realize in man technique you have to be smart with your physicality and street smart on getting PBU or interceptions. It’s a question of maturity. He’ll be fine.

  11. So far Davis has stayed home, been where he is supposed to be and played a very good game at linebacker. Lee has not played this hard before.

    1. Steveg49, Davis is making an impact. Wow now that’s how your rush end needs to bend did you see that Grinchy show that tape over n over. I give praise now we just give up another big play 82 yards. Just when I was satisfied with the 2nd half performance. Wow K. Foreman sighting. Now we are on pace to give up over 400 yds for the 2nd week in a row

  13. Playcalling was better and more simplified. Not having Quinones could be a problem. He’s the backup center. Relying on a walk-on is concerning.

Stanford is slow and lack depth. Should be interesting how the coaches call the game.

  14. If I’m Covington I’d portal outta there. He’s proven to be the most consistent and dependable DB, but the clown brigade coaches ( Grinch & Donte ) are playing some kind of high school favorites game. Wait until the second half of the schedule.
