Charges Dropped Against USC Students Accused Of Stealing NFL Jerseys

The two USC students who were accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of NFL Draft jerseys had their criminal charges dropped by Missouri prosecutors.

The students — Eric Lambkins II and Jude Ocanas — will perform 40 hours of community service in Southern California.

Lambkins told the L.A. Times he didn’t know why prosecutors dropped the charges but the students offered to work with USC to produce a video called “Credentials Granted” about the “dos and don’ts of being a sports reporter.”

That ought to be worth watching.

“I feel as though I can begin to pick up the pieces of my reputation that has been shattered and rebuild what I know I have been placed on this Earth to do, which is to tell stories,” Lambkins told the Times. “I’m just extremely thankful to the Jackson County prosecutor that she decided to dismiss the charges.”

Said Ocanas: “It was an extremely embarrassing and traumatic situation.”

Video surveillance showed the pair entered an area they did not access to and three jerseys were taken from the room, according to the NFL. The items were a San Francisco 49ers jersey, a Dallas Cowboys jersey and a Minnesota Vikings jersey. They all had no names printed on them and the number “1” on the backs.

USC has not said if it will pursue any disciplinary action against the duo.

    1. Owen Shroyer is one of only a handful of Jan. 6 participants charged with a crime despite neither entering the Capitol building nor being accused of committing violence or destruction on Capitol grounds. Prosecutors charged Shroyer because he had previously signed a deferred prosecution agreement after interrupting a congressional hearing in 2019 and had agreed as part of that case not to utter “loud, threatening, or abusive language, or to engage in any disorderly or disruptive conduct, at any place upon the United States Capitol Grounds.”

      1. Oh, I think 60 days for what is essentially a probation violation makes him more than a “perceived victim”…..

  1. Said Ocanas: “It was an extremely embarrassing and traumatic situation.” Mostly because helicopter mommy & or daddy never taught me that I wasn’t at the center of the universe & that I actually can’t walk away with whatever I want…

  2. These two were selected by the journalism department of the university to cover the draft. Their airfare and hotel expenses were paid by the university. Embarrassment indeed. I suspect both are on some type of scholarship or tuition assistance. That needs to end immediately.

  3. Scooter,

The Missouri prosecutors aren’t that smart. They should have thrown the book at the two SC student’s and proclaim that the PAC 12 or any representation of the PAC 12 will not be tolerated nor will be accepted for any and all illegal action, per SEC territorial rights and privilages. Full and extreme prosecution will take effect immedialty if they are to be found of the stench of the Pac 12.

  4. Seems fitting that these two thieves chose journalism as their major. Honesty is now a hindrance in this profession. Just do whatever it takes to advance the false narrative. They should fit right in at the LA Times, NY Times, Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, or even ABC, NBC, CBS or PBS.

  5. Scumbags rip off retail stores nationwide, no charges or identification. Lowlifes in DC commit the most egregious felonies, with no charges and the beat goes on. Why should a couple of young students be charged for snatching some worthless rags?
