Mater Dei defensive lineman Aydin Breland, a four-star prospect, has narrowed his list of schools to Georgia, Miami and Oregon.
So virtually every top prospect from the nation’s No. 1 high school program is not considering USC. That’s a problem.
Lincoln Riley probably just figures he’ll go to the transfer portal to address his needs. But USC’s always had a good relationship with Mater Dei and it’s clear the players aren’t impressed with something about the recruiting process right now.
One problem is a lot of these players are linemen. And USC’s not doing a great job recruiting there. Both lines right now are full of transfers. So a top recruit who wants to develop probably sees nothing but transfers and wonders what the coaches are really doing to develop players into NFL prospects.
Interesting.
GA is the flavor of the month with back to back titles.
Miami has former Ducks coach and along with Oregon both have unlimited checkbook.
Didn’t see ND or Big 10 teams.
Remember if SC wins, it is a non event, as recruiting will catch the wave.

There are something like 10,000 college players
with about 2500 graduating/leaving each year
All these kids were at least All-League in high school
and so all have NFL aspirations
But maybe 100 of the 2500 will ever see any NFL dough
So in college with the NIL money is the time to strike

I just posted a vine on your last post from yesterday. Let me say this Mr. Wolfe can you see that these kids from MD N SJB are making a business desion. Kids are not going to schools because they love the school or coach or do they develop that’s BS. Only 1% of all HS recruits make it to the NFL. Only 0.0115% of all players from big time programs make it big time in the Pros. Now go n do some research on some positivity topics but I know you need click bait to keep your blogging duties. Branch came to SC for the love of USC Degree? No because he’s thar 1,%

Look at the Transfer Portal it’s a meat market do players letave Alabama Georgia Ohio State because they are not being developed how many 5* stars enter TSP a lot because they are being developed at the Pro level not College it’s just like HS if you have a special skill it will be developed or enhanced by pro coaches sometimes. Nothing in life is gauranteed you have to make the most of your business opportunities this game is a NIL $$$$$$ business Mr. Wolf

In the past USC would send former HS alumni to schools in order to recruit new students for the team. In order to do this, they have to have alumni from said schools. They have to prime the pump to get the water flowing.
Although the point of the blog topic is USC missing out on recruiting at Max Prep’s #1 school, it is actually a thinly disguised swipe at Lincoln Riley. The criticism should be leveled at Clueless Clay.
He didn’t go near the blue chip HS programs in Southern California. Our school counselor (Ms. Ricks) was an Alumni from USC, her son attended Mater Dei in Santa Anna. I asked her if he was headed to USC, she told me Ed Orgeron from LSU visited her home over Christmas vacation and recruited her son. She (and her son) never heard from Clay Helton. She tried to point her son towards the school, but even the kid knew Helton was clueless. (And Swann extended his contract)
Don’t blame Riley for stopping the flow.

SC used to offer Phys Ed as a major and crank out futurehigh school coaches and JC coaches in So.Calif…in its infinite wisdom it stopped doing that, also makes it harder to get JC transfers…

Not enough money accruing to the PE major program? I’m sorry that SUCC canceled a worthwhile major avenue that improves LA education.

Ms. Ricks was an alumna.
But I do like the idea of deifying all USC “Alumni”. 😉

not recruiting out of one school in one year is not a problem. USC recruiting is limited by the lack of NIL for high school athletes.
i think that Riley is focused on winning this year and then will come back to the 2024 class with more ammunition for how they have developed their players. if the USC defense can improve significantly, that will help to sell players on that side of the ball.
if i were the AD at USC, I would begin to lobby the Big 10 to establish NIL guidelines across their conference and enforce them. stop the type of pay-for-play NIL that Oregon is doing. then try to push the Big 10 to negotiate with other conferences to do the same thing.
Mater Dei athletes have generally been overrated.

If the Big 10 established NIL guidelines across their conference and enforced them, then the lawsuits would begin…the US Supreme Court opened the floodgates and it’s going to be very hard to turn them back off.

When a top California recruit has schools such as Oregon, Miami, Florida State, and Texas A&M on the top of their list it is an obvious money grab. Let them go. It is an incredibly short sited decision on behalf of the recruit and his parents. USC is situated in the entertainment capital of the world with all the opportunities that affords an athlete, great alumni network, world class academics, great football tradition, ect. Other schools can not compete in these areas. So the recruit is going to throw away these benefits for a $100,000 bag of cash! What is an 18 year old going to buy with it – a fast car and some fancy clothes.

USC broke the pipeline when they refused to pay up front to the prima donnas from MD and Bosco. USC does not need them. The players need the money to pay mom and dad back for the exorbiant tuition to go to the prima donna high schools.
