USC Sunday Buzz: As Good As Pac-12 Is, It’s Really Bad At Bottom

The Pac-12 is good but today it was also very bad.

Stanford lost to Sacramento State, 30-23! Remember that when you pumped up that USC win over the Cardinal last week.

The announced crowd at Stanford Stadium was 23,848.

  • Arizona State committed eight turnovers in a 29-0 loss to Fresno State. It didn’t have its starting QB and the Nos. 2 an 3 QBs got hurt during the game, leaving the Sun Devils with fourth-string QB Jacob Conover.

Notre Dame-transfer Drew Pyne, who was No. 3, left the game with a muscular injury in his leg. He’s been out weeks with a pulled hamstring. Trenton Bourguet, who was No. 2, needs an MRI on his foot.

The No. 1 QB, Jaden Rashada, is out four-to-six weeks.

The USC-Arizona State game looks awful. Kenny Dillingham’s Boy Wonder persona as a offensive savant is in serious trouble.

The last time ASU was shut out at home was a 50-0 loss to No. 2-ranked USC in 1988. The last time ASU was shut out home-or-away was a 28-0 loss to No. 8-ranked USC in 2008.

    1. The one time I met Larry Smith after SC had lost to ND for a possible National Championship in 1988 I told him, “Thanks for bringing SC back, Coach.” SC had Rose Bowls in ’87, ’88 and ’89 under his watch, and after he was unceremoniously fired SC then had an 8-game losing streak to sucla from 91-98

Speaking of uneremonious firings I just finished reading a long dissertation about Lane Kiffin and how his “tarmac” firing, the subject of much derisiveness, depressed him so for a long long time. We often seem to lose our hold on human-feelings reality when it comes to matters of sports– religion and politics too

      1. Except the 8 game losing streak began under Larry’s watch with USC losing 24-21 in 1991 and 38-37 in 1992. Larry was fired after the 1992 24-7 loss to Fresno State in the Freedom Bowl.

      2. No one gives a fuck what Smith was doing 32 years ago. It’s pathetic how you ruin thread after thread with your Biden rants but know absolutely nothing about the mechanics of modern football…you really need to blow your head off….you and slo pa-troll suffer from the same dilemma….pathetic

      3. Sparrow Calypso and Michael sure seem interested in USC’s rich football tradition, Cowardly Gabby aka TebowObama aka The Guy who posts as So Cal’s Wife & LawyerJohn & Pudly & Plow Horse & steveg49 & DOJ & Scott Wolf and Frank Young. You obviously don’t know and don’t care about all the great USC football players and teams through our 135 seasons because you never went to USC and only show up here to bully and harass USC alums trying to have a discussion about their school. Shoo fly!

You are as wanted here as Senile Joe is at a Girls Scouts convention.

  1. Every conference has teams that suck. So, that is just college football. Stanford didn’t used to suck but now they suck every game. They must suck at practice too. Stanford just plain sucks.

      1. Please discourage (by not commenting) not encourage this TB

Notice how SC is only a 14-point fave against ASU
and Ohio St is 7.5 over ND.
What would an SC-ND line be today?– SC by 3.5?

      4. Same person with a bunch of voices in her head. That’s why she claims “we all this” or “everyone’s” this or that.

She is all kinds of messed up in the head. The entire blog knows it.

  2. Well Colorado won’t give up easily, so we can’t let them get up on us. (can’t remember worrying about them before)
ASU was just rope-a- doping to psych us out. (Okay not really).
As for Larry Smith, my voice can be heard on the video (tape in those days) from the Ucla game broadcast, yelling , “Fire Smith!” His coaching killed the Superfan.
And finally thanks to Clay dough Helton for not covering the spread. Only a non disciplined team can go down that hard after starting well. (typical Helton fashion) The guy really has a phobia about winning. # cuetheWolfstoryaboutHelton

  3. During that Colorado game there was an illegal touching penalty committed by Colorado late in the 4th that should have been called resulting in a 5 yard penalty and loss of down that the referres clearly missed. Shown on replay the announcers said nothing, stayed silent not even commenting on it

    1. The media loves Colorado because of the ratings they generate. The Prime train is going to get derailed in the next two weeks. Prime got lucky against TCU and Nebraska is a horrible team.

    2. Good comment. I believe it’s getting to be common knowledge the guys in the booth are told to defend the officiating. The officiating is part of the product they sell.

      3. He’s not allowed to answer questions. He’s said at least a dozen times that he’ll get into trouble if he does.

That’s one of many reasons I laugh at the Village Idiot for copying & pasting Bizarro World’s dumb post about Biden pulling “double duty”. He’s not. He’s got dementia and is not calling the shots. He’s just a puppet dictator.

But the Village Idiot doesn’t let that stop him from posting stupidity.

  4. The Pac-12 is the toughest conference at the top. If USC goes undefeated in this league, they will be #1 in the nation. There is simply no rest for this team in the second half of the season.

  5. This news has no interest outside of me, but I am leading the Trojan Daily contest–
    Sparrow 25,000
    Chris 24,000
    Golden Trojan 23,000

5000 SC over San Jose win 25,000
3,000 Nevada over SC lose 22,000
3,000 Stanford over SC lose 19,000
6,000 Wisconsin over Helton win 25,000

      1. Thanks Gabby, and I did not mean to imply that SC coach
Larry Smith was not legitimately let go
Only to show his short-run in 1987, 1988 and 1989 rejuvenated Trojan Championship chances coupled with Rodney Peete
        the sucla-Killer
I met Peete right before the sucla’Measle 1988 contest at a campus pre-game rally, and told him “I hate ucla,” to which he similingly said, “Why?” — And that’s bothered me ever since

  6. I told y’all that the only thing about the Trojan Daily blog is
the college-football “betting” contest where every entrant,
official or unofficial, starts with 20,000 units and then bets weekly
    on college games.
But none of the ‘Wolfers’ signed on. Pity!– This contest won by me
in 2021 and unfortunately not played in 2022 stimulates you to analyze football games you would never think of watching. A waste of time sure, but the passion drawn-out is intoxicating. Like they say,
    “It’s all about winning”

  7. Confidence–
Watched the first half of Tennessee v Florida, the ‘Volunteers having won but 2 games in 20 years and yet were a touchdown favorite had the Gators thinking, “A Tennessee win?– This I gotta see”

There was a confidence divide whereas Florida’s guys seemed more assured and Tennessee’s played nervous and disorganized as if to silently say, “Here we go again!”

  8. Brutality–
Then on the other hand I saw the first half of Colorado v Colorado St
2 schools who will never share a beer together
We saw both teams getting angrier as they took turns with cheap shots
It seems a riot and a football game are not far apart

  9. I saw earlier a 14-point spread on tbe SC-ASU game but that has been corrected to 32-points. I have twice lost bets against SC covering as 30-point favorites so I probably won’t make that mistake again

  10. Yikes – that’s punishment to the ears either way. I remember a sports talk radio host talking about a t-shirt that read: “I’d rather shower with Jerry Sandusky than root for Michigan.” Can’t believe Joe doesn’t have a similar t-shirt ( “I’d rather root for Michigan than shower with Joe Biden.”) or something to that effect. #MissedOpportunity
