Lincoln Riley’s Got His Act Down

Do people actually take Lincoln Riley quotes seriously anymore?

Here is what he said on “Trojans Live” about backup linebackers Raesjon Davis and Shane Lee.

“It’s a room we feel like we have a lot of great guys with. Guys like Raesjon and Shane have played really well in other guys’ absence, and we still want to keep those guys very involved.”

Neither Davis nor Lee played a snap against Arizona State. That’s not “very involved.”

I guarantee you both are fuming they didn’t play while Mason Cobb went 74 snaps with one tackle and Tackett Curtis had an up-and-down performance.

This is the same Riley who said cornerback Ceyair Wright was the “breakout” player of the spring/summer and defensive end Korey Foreman had “improved” so much he wasn’t even close to last season’s form.

I won’t even rehash what he said about how much better the defense would be in 2023.

      2. Biden reminds me of Trudeau in Canada. Everyone I talk to hates them( I talk to Canadians on the internet). You struggle to find someone who says something good about them. When they show up at an event, they get booed out of the stadium or arena or whatever. Yet you’re telling me that they are winning all of these elections. Everywhere Trump goes, he’s wildly cheered.   5. The problem is Reilly may be too intelligent. He looks at a base defense and knows that he can exploit it. Score virtually at will against most teams. Then Grinch comes along with his late shifting, overloading one side of the line, never ending blitz packages, and disguised coverages and Reilly thinks that maybe a scheme like this will result in a lot of sacks, TFL, fumbles and interceptions. We may give up some big plays but our defense will be able to get the opposing offense off the field. Trouble is that it just doesn’t make sense to play high risk/reward when you have Bear on your defensive line. Play a base defense.

    3. Is it a schematic problem when the players cant tackle and take bad angles and get trapped on the wrong side of a pile of blockers or dont seem to be able to figure out who has the ball and go after the QB when the running back has the ball?

      I just dont think there are ANY easy fixes for the defense. I have said this before, but when a defense gets worse with more time with coaches, that tells me that everything they are teaching is not working.

      Maybe Grinch can only get ineffective coaches to coach under him and that is the core problem.

      Is the lack of playing time for Raesjon maybe because he actually knows how to play instinctively and the coaches want him to do things their way (the wrong way)? so they dont play him because he doesnt listen to bad coaching?

  6. I’m so over LR with what he says, right now you are delusional if you think Cobb, Curtis are worthy of playing 74 snaps. Please consult with a Pro Coach who can give you advice about how a defense is supposed to be. Cobb is too slow can’t cover, Curtis plays like a freshman trying to find his way. Can you blitz from a base defense so we don’t get gashed. Gentry Davis Lee need to play they know the scheme m it shows. My god listen!!!¡!!!
