USC Monday Night Notes

Does anybody else find it odd that the No. 1-ranked offensive tackle in the nation (Brandon Baker) lives in Ontario and didn’t have USC in his final choices before he committed to Texas?

If I were the USC offensive line coach or head coach, I’d be pretty unhappy about that. There’s always the transfer portal but a five-star lineman in your backyard should at least be considering you. Based on the Arizona State game, the USC offensive line still need plenty of help.

        Scott Wolf, I would like to point out your lack of professionalism and integrity as a sports journalist. My background is in the IT field and am familiar with WordPress architecture. After ghosting your blog several times something odd came to my attention. A person who often replies under the username “Cowardly Gabby” (too many characters to list the entire name) is replying with “embedded posts” lifted from Twitter accounts. Here’s the problem with that, only the administrator/ owner of this website would have access to “developer t00ls” that could permit these types of posts to come through without being flagged for moderation.

        The person in question is replying with “embedded posts” one after another, often only one to two minutes apart. If I try to post a reply with an “embedded post”, from Twitter, in the comment box it would trigger the “waiting for moderation” dialog. It’s obvious this person’s relies are not being flagged for moderation.

        You have just been exposed for engaging in some really despicable behavior. I will be sure to let the other sites I frequent know the type of behavior taking place here

  3. Old news Scott. The rumor was that Baker had a meeting with Coach Josh Henson and did not connect well with him. If that’s the case, then he should not attend USC. Henson has very good coaching credentials and has put players into the NFL. But, he is rather blunt and tends not to kiss ass. Seems like that approach is at odds with many of these Mater Dei/Bosco kids that think the sun rises and sets on them. Recruit hard workers like Alani Noa, Elijah Hughes, Tackett Curtis, and others that want to take direction from their coaches.

    1. Very good point. Clay Helton was famous for visiting recruits’ homes and kissing their feet. That approach might land some types of kids but it leads to trouble down the road. In 2018 [5-7 season] when Clay told the L. A. Times, “My #1 Responsibility is discipline!”, I thought “Good luck, none of the recruits respect you”…

What happened to the Public Storage big donors family they don’t donate to the university anymore? I can’t explain the disappointment in our on the field product right now. Had my cocktail MG, just got through watching the game over there was some positives things. 1) OL are better run blockers, than pass protectors. 2) CRW is the best DB boundary CB., but has no speed to cover burners. 3) RE are applying enough pressure .But Gentry is the only LB dissecting plays, he must play more snaps. Do coaches rely on PFF for grading players because analytics can be misleading. Point being we are 1st TFL tied for 5th in sacks but 80th total defense. That is an big improvement from last year 112th? We need to be around 50th by season end. If DC can simplify schemes that will take away chunk run plays n keep our LB in position to play downhill. JMHO.

  8. This blog is the ultimate widows cauldron benefitting a scene out of MacBeth or the Red Wedding. So USC isn’t perfect or dominating like Pete Carroll. I would take this over Clay Helton coaching any day.

    We don’t deserve a national championship, the program only needs to earn our support, they’re the ones who will let themselves down if they can’t win it all with Caleb.
