USC Notes: Changes Need To Be Made

If Lincoln Riley is serious, Alex Grinch and Donte Williams won’t be back next season.

That’s the cold-hearted truth about USC football. If Riley wants to be as good as he claimed USC would be this season, he needs to make changes.

When the coaches evaluated the roster in the offseason, how did they not bring in more cornerbacks? They had too much faith in the returning players, for reasons I never understood.

He also needs to evaluate what is going on with the strength program. I’m surprised how USC gets physically bullied by teams. That cannot happen at USC.

  • USC started 13 players last night who started their careers at another school.
  • Is linebacker Raesjon Davis hurt? I only ask because he didn’t play according to the official stats. And Lincoln Riley said he had a “big part” to play this season.

  2. I dont know what coach thought this was a good idea, but they need to focus the team in solid execution of fundamentals, not tricks.

    This is EMBARRASSING.

    Get rid of the towel wavers too.

    Hopefully, the AD who hired Kalen DeBoer will understand that there needs to be change and that Riley is not yet a good head coach.

    More ‘Neons’ and not Rices was SC’s need; if a team has got great corners the rush isn’t as essential

    Some fans want Wiley gone after just 1 1/2 years; let’s see how this season plays out first

  5. I’ve said this time and time again, it’s impossible to solve a problem when you won’t admit that you have a problem. If CLR was serious about the defense Alex Grinch would’ve been let go after the Cotton Bowl debacle. When he was retained it sent a clear message that CLR is not serious about defense, and the same thing applied when he was at OU. As far as Donte Williams goes, he is nothing short of one of those half ass AAU basketball coaches who is always trying to convince people that he really knows what he’s talking about. Ask yourself this question. If Donte Williams was all that, then why is he still a position coach instead of a coordinator?

      That idiot Donte Williams is a recruiter, he’s not a coach. In order to keep him looking busy he shows up at USC, he puts on his tights, goes to the practice field and gathers up all the round styrofoam wheels and or rubber balls and proceeds to roll them at the players as they run through drills.

      For doing that Donte Williams is paid over $1,000,000 a year.

      Not a bad gig if you can get it, huh?

  6. The issue is fundamentally clear, Lin Clowney is a bad football coach. He’s not even a good off co. A good OC sets the line up front & builds from there. SC’s run game is now dead and the passing game is dying on the vine. CW might need to transfer and play elsewhere next year to be a 1 pick. What does that say about the clown in charge? We would only be so lucky to have clowney go pro next year except the NFL has seen that trick pony already… and he’s on our sideline as a qb ruiner. It’s looking so good isn’t it?
    How many light years are we from Petey? He at least had the brains to bring in a guru coordinator in Chow and got the fuck out of the way. That’s what a top line HC does. Clowney brings in mediocre bullshit cuz he’s afraid the spotlight might shine on someone for a few seconds. I guess it wears on his vanity.
    To me, there is no difference between Clown Helton and Clown Riley. Neither is championship material and we’re just wasting time trying to figure it out. If we really want Championships we’re just wasting time. And if cfb is teaching us anything right now is you don’t have time to waste. We’re not far from being renamed Southern Furd.

  13. This is like the old Helton, etc. days where everyone blamed the DC but the DCs were changed but always doing what the Fraud wanted, i.e. to get him the ball back to play Air Raid, WR dominated, scramble drill soft azz offense.

    Even Helton knew he needed a special teams coach.

    The best we got out of Helton was Sam Darnold, another talented arm and athlete with a second slot Rose Bowl win, which is better than what Riley has achieved granted…

    I’d go so far as to say that Helton theoretically may have done better with our QB, Caleb, when Helton caved into the idea that he needed a QB’s super talent to bail out the incompetent head coach, and Helton may have been ever so slightly more inclined to run and use tight ends at one point maybe. lol That poor wretched fraud. Meh.
