Coaches See Games Differently

Fans look at games differently than coaches.

A lot of fans said the defense stepped up last weekend and played its best game of the season. It certainly did better than in many games this season.

But two coaches who play USC this season had a similar reaction.

“It was still typical USC. They couldn’t get a key stop when they needed one and gave up the 46-yard touchdown pass,” one coach said.

“It’s not about stats. It’s about getting a stop when you need a stop. They didn’t do it when they needed to,” the other coach said.

  • Lincoln Riley says USC’s special teams have improved. That’s quite a comment when a 99-yard kickoff return was one of the biggest plays of the USC-Notre Dame game.

  1. I really believe Riley is trying to get Caleb another Heisman and has his resume ready for his next job out of so Cal. With some of the most pathetic, absurd comments about his team and coaching. Delusions and denials lately with his comments!

    1. Lincoln Riley doesn’t even realize that his boyfriend defensive coordinator Alex Grinch doesn’t know shit about defense, he’s not getting another high profile job.

This clown Lincoln Riley doesn’t understand it starts in the trenches.

You can have all the skill players you want, they won’t do you a bit of good if you don’t have time to get them the ball.

If your defense is shit and can’t get any stops, you’re fucked. That’s what those idiot frauds Alex Grinch, Shaun Nua and Donte Williams bring to the table, nothing but incompetence, not a one of them is worth a shit and Lincoln Riley doesn’t see it.

That clown and those Bozo’s he has working for him are finished. After they take more beatings this aeason their names won’t just be mud, they’ll be shit which is exactly what they are.

    1. Wrong, but I am going to follow Coach’s lead and “block out all the sound”
as he instructed his team– what good is it listening to a pile of ‘poor-sports’ males?

  3. Riley is not going anywhere.
    He has 5 year contract.
Ass’t coaches have 3 year contract.
Most of the assistant coaches are not leaving either except d-coordinator.

    1. Actually, I thought he had a 10-year contract at $100+million
Which means he would be giving up a lot if he left early
and since he has a taste for $17-million homes he probably is staying

  4. Too bad this is not 2024 already when 12 teams qualify for the playoffs with the prospect of 2 maybe 3 Pac-12 teams qualifying

Trojans are up in arms regarding how some of the Portal-guys are not working out
Well, some high school prospects like Foreman don’t always work out either

Block out the noise, Wiley advises. It figured when Trojans were moaning about winning close games at Colorado and Arizona that the first loss (ND) would raise the
complaining decibel level to a squalid shrill

    1. You like to be lied to like a typical Democrat? Wake the fuc up sparrow. USC coaching has been very suspect the last few games. Including the last 2 games last year. It’s like Baker Mayfield said LR tries to outscore his opponents, not stop them. It has become apparent he doesn’t care about the defensive side of the ball or the entire team. He only cares about stats and numbers to get CW another Heisman. To pad his resume and a ticket to an NFL gig!

  5. Scooter,

Tired of the gobbly gook coming out of Riley. He has not manned up and said that the defense is not working or he has addressed the oline or recruiting. He avoids giving a straight answer. SC will lose to Utah. There is too much disfunction on the oline. the defense can’t lock down utah and they are missing their starting gimp qb. It will be Helton years all over again.

      1. Sparrow,

I thank you for your concern. Yes, I am a believer in Christ. Thank you for that as well. For the last eight years when Helton or whenever started up to this point, It just seems that they two coaches pull the same speech out for whatever problem that they have had. (I would love to be their speech writer. LOLOL) However, after the explanation has been said, you see the same problem as before. I have been a fan since the 60’s and always will be. But I just want the honest truth. If SC is not good, then say so. Don’t sugar coat it. Mckay never did. I realize Riley is trying to stay positive, but it hurts the program and its fans because of the malarky that we have heard for the last eight years. I keep hoping that the entire team will play a near perfect game because that is what i am used to when I saw the 70’s Trojans play. That is what we all expect. Thank you Sparrow. Even God got mad at his loved ones. LOLOL

      2. I’m a strong believer in God but you can’t change facts or handle the Truth. That USC has a ton of talent and the coaches are letting them down. It’s freaking obvious to many fans. I said 8-4 before the season because LR kept ginch, not improving his team one bit, on the defensive side of the ball. That was an obvious thing to do was cut weight and show him the door. Now back to being mediocre again. You can’t fix anything while staying with the status quo.

  6. I agree 100% with this. The defense didnt get a stop when they really needed it.

The only thing new was that the offense got shut down for a whole game.

The whole program is falling apart. If USC loses to Utah, this season will go into a tailspin, because Washington and Oregon will curbstomp us.

The core problem that I see is that the offense thinks Caleb will bail them all out. The receivers are not getting open, the offensive line cant run block or pass block. They all think that Superman will save them. This is a horrible culture to develop – zero accountability in coaching and players.

I have been saying since last year that Riley needed to create a program called “without Superman”, where he looked at everything in terms of how this team would perform without Caleb. If a unit was not elite without Caleb, then there was a problem that needed to be addressed.

Honestly, Caleb has not developed since last year. He still isnt getting the ball out and is not seeing receivers who are open.

I’m starting to wonder if Riley’s magic with QB development is really more of his skill identifying and recruiting unique talents, rather than actually making them better.
