Lincoln Riley Finds Silver Lining

If you want a silver lining, here’s Lincoln Riley today:

“The reality is we’re undefeated in the best conference probably in college football right now.”

The funny part is USC fans aren’t too happy being 6-1. Probably because they watched the games.

  • Riley said, “We’ve practiced our tails off this week.”

He also said, “We practiced very well last week. Our team was ready to play.”

In what way, shape or form was USC ready to play against Notre Dame? It also doesn’t say much for having a great week of practice.

  • Riley on safety Zion Branch:

“I perceive him having a big role from here on out.”

That sounds similar to what he said about linebacker Raesjon Davis last month.

    1. The majority of SC “fans” want it (Natiional Championship) NOW
and are not willing to wait for the team to develop

      1. My problem is that we are devolving. Next season will be worse than last season unless there are major changes. I am becoming convinced that Riley was only successful in taking over a blue-blood program that was handed to him from a good HC, he is not capable of taking a program with troubles and putting the foundation in place.

It all comes down to player development and it isnt happening.

Plus the teams get worse as the season progresses, which is a sign of a bad coaching staff

The recruiting is in a terrible place for 2024.

  1. Notwithstanding having a good week of practice and being ready to take on Neuter Dame,
    – if your quarterback starts off by throwing 3-picks the entire team is still going to look bad

  2. Guess it is a good thing they practiced really hard and were ready for ND,if not I guess the score would have been much worse. He does not realize a successful season for SC includes wins over ND and ucla…always. at least it was that way all of my life, dating to 1943 to today. Anything less is always a bummer.

      1. slo pa-troll, you know what stalking and obsessed looks like- 125 out of 128 consecutive posts mentioning or directed at Gabby.

Obsess: preoccupy or fill the mind of (someone) continually, intrusively, and to a troubling extent.

Stalk: 1. pursue or approach stealthily. 2. harass or persecute (someone) with unwanted and obsessive attention.

Take your own advice, you sound like a hypocrite; “but several people have suggested So Cal seek psychiatric help!! He is in some serious denial.”

THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS, THE BLOG FREAK!

        FUCKING KNUCKLE HEAD!

    1. Because of the limited ways a team could win a national championship prior to the “Final-4 and now in 2024 the “Final-12”
SC had to beat both ND and sucla to obtain the Title.
That no longer is the case in most instances

  3. Wiley has been uncharacteristically defensive this season
while in effect saying, “This is only Year-2 give me a chance”

But he has learned that ‘greed’ does not take long to set in with a sports crowd. After 7-years of predominately dull Helton football
Wiles brought the ‘Trojan football horse’ back to life in 2022.
And now in 2023 SC “fans” are saying “National Championship or bust

In discussing Utah Wiles emphasized that the Utes have a built-in advantage in having players for long periods of time in which to teach them the fundamentals (such as tackling). Not quite sure what he meant by that except guys leave on their Mormon missions and come back older and mature.
But glad to hear the team bounced back and are having good practices

    1. How does anyone know if USC is having good practices? Last time I checked, practices are closed to everyone who is not directly involved with the program, so there no way to tell for sure. Unlike the P.C. days when practices were open to all and more than a couple of people could see how practices were going. CLR is turning into a political spin doctor where he is trying to convince one and all that things are just rosy in Trojan land.

    2. I hear what you are saying- but from my perspective- I didn’t think we were national championship contenders this year or last year. I don’t even think we will be next year at the rate things are going. What I wanted to see was player development- in 1 1/2 years we should be seeing it- better tackling, less blown assignments, more general toughness. I just don’t think this staff pays attention to creating a culture of toughness- after Helton, I truly believed things would have shifted by now- and yet as many on this post have reported- it appears the program is stalled in those same areas- sure the offense is better, and we have started to recruit a little better- but we should be hearing about 5 star O linemen wanting to be here, Stud Defensive HS players wanting to be here- not just receivers and QB’s. If we had started to see those things, then I’d be more patient- but as of now, I feel it’s the same thing. And Riley not ever showing accountability- just feeding us the defense is making strides bs- its no wonder Trojan nation and myself are frustrated.

  4. Dick Wolf, I mean Scott Wolf is still milking wet-dream paradise. It was a gut-punch loss. But dwelling on it for five straight days has become increasingly unnecessary. Now turn the page on focus on the Utes.

  5. Utah looks to be weak on offense averaging only 4.0yd per rush and QB has only thrown 3 TD’s. We are going to crush them, then comes Wash. and Ore. which will be whole different ball game.

    1. We need to get through the Utah game as healthy as can be. No injuries to key players. The boys are next up, and that will define the season

  6. Caleb is a once in a generation talent. The thought was that he gives us a chance to win any game even if overmatched on defense. The story went that we could knock off Georgia or Michigan under the right circumstances by outscoring them. People are now frustrated because that unrealistic vision was exposed last Saturday. The reality is we do not have a good enough offensive line to compete with the big programs by simply outscoring them like TCU outscored Michigan last year. Our offensive can not score at will and a good defense can shut us down. So where do we go from here? I suggest that we acknowledge our weaknesses and adjust the offensive scheme. More rollouts, quick drops, misdirection plays, ect. that keep the opponents defensive line at bay because our offensive line can’t protect well enough to allow us to use the entire playbook. We will need that against Utah.

  7. Riley and his entire coaching staff have been exposed for weeks now. Caleb obviously had a terrible outing against ND. Without Caleb we would be 4-3 right now.
