USC Morning Buzz: How Deep Could Housecleaning Go?

What kind of housecleaning are we looking at for USC?

Surely it’s over for Alex Grinch. Is there any way back for Donte Williams, whose contract is in the final year? What about offensive line coach Josh Henson, whose unit has struggled? I can’t say much in favor of the linebackers coaches other than they are Oklahoma guys, which might give them some sort of protection.

Truthfully, almost every coach would seem to be at risk. Assistant head coach Dennis Simmons is probably the only one you could say is 100 percent safe as Lincoln Riley’s right-hand man.

Can Riley get away with just a couple changes?

Some of that might depend on how the final few games go. An 8-4 regular season would be disastrous. Riley would probably resist wholesale changes but can he? We just don’t know how serious athletic director Jen Cohen would be about pushing her marquee coach to improve the program. Does she want to make waves in her first six months?

Cohen seems to be sitting back and observing right now and keeping a low profile.

  • This is unrelated but I’m hearing rumors Texas A&M is interested in Washington coach Kalen DeBoer, if Jimbo Fisher doesn’t return. There are people in Seattle who think DeBoer would prefer to stay in Washington. Would he feel the same about USC?

    unless SC sweeps the California schools

    So Wiles was really sick despite some sick Posters claiming otherwise although the guy returned prematurely with that kind of disease, but Wiley is driven and he has had offensive success his entire career.

    Now if he could just find some defensive coaches who know what they are doing, and perhaps Wiles has learned not to mess with the media
    i.e. don’t outlaw some journaists and make your players available for interviews

      3. Lincoln Riley is acting like a little bitch. Hurt feelings, pouting, taking his insecurities out on the media/reporters.

        Forbidding players from talking to the media, afraid of what they might say, worried that they will speak the truth about the shit defensive coaching taking place.

        Riley has been making excuses for any little thing that bothers him since he got to USC. Last season he blamed the players saying they weren’t “his players” that they were leftovers from Helton’s 4-8 team and that’s why there were so many close games against really inferior teams.

        So he gets the players he wanted through the portal twice now and the team is doing worse. Now he’s really whining like the little bitch he is because his boyfriend Alex Grinch is taking heat for being a shit defensive coordinator and rightfully so.

        USC/L.A. is too big for Lincoln Riley, he’s too delicate, his feelings are easily hurt, he can’t handle criticism, he’s clueless when it comes to defense and the importance of it.

        Lincoln Riley just needs to leave, he doesn’t fit, he’s another Clay Helton, one dimensional and in over his head.

  2. Coach 162 only misses two days with pneumonia ? That sounds very fishy since most healthy people take at least a week to get over it and many take months. He’s either got one hell of an immune system and the antibiotics worked quickly or this is a smokescreen for him needing to take a couple of days off because he’s got something mental going on. Look at his postgame presser, he couldn’t or wouldn’t make eye contact with anyone.

    Wouldn’t be surprised at all if Coach 162 worked out a deal with USC and bailed after this year, don’t think this guy has the mental toughness needed for the job, don’t think he wants to fire his buddies, don’t think he wants to recruit 12 months a year, and I think he wants to do other things with his life that don’t take up all of his time.

      1. It’s more than that, guy lost his mentor and a coaching buddy in a very short time, his buddy wasn’t much older than he is. He says he can’t see himself coaching at 50, doesn’t want to have regrets, I think he’s looking at his kids and wanting to spend more time with them and see them grow up and wondering if all this is worth it. He’s got enough to live off of for life, go find something else to do and be happy.

    2. I’m inclined to agree, Buddha, but hope he proves us wrong.

      As I stated yesterday, I’m pulling for him. But it’s lonely at the top and it’s time for him to make those tough decisions, regardless of his emotional ties with staff.

      I think it’s great that he appears to not be the sort who throws people under the bus at the first sign of distress, in order to save his own hide. But there comes a time that something must be done.

    but he will when SC finishes paying him the $80-million or so it still owes him. Any NFL team open to picking up that tab?

    Besides, high-energy guys like Wiles need to work, he is not the

    Cohen, the sorority girl aka AD will not do a thing. She will leave it up to Riley to fire who he wants. Riley won’t fire anyone because of his loyality tot he coaches. If Riley wants to change, he needs to fire the dcordinator, db coach, the oline coach, and lber coach. He needs to hire guys that will recruit very hard here in the southland. He himself needs to go and recruit in the southland. If by chance he does this and put in an offensive plan that is going to be physical by running the ball then maybe he will survive.

    If Riley leaves, then maybe talk to the Oregon State coach, Smith. He is from Glendora High. He has done very well with what he has. This is my opinion.

  9. During SC’s last Reign of Terror when they won National Championships in 2003 and 2004 Cal was very instrumental
    with a 3 overtime victory in ’03 and the ‘Aaron Rodgers’ game in ’04
    with Rodgers at the end camped out on SC’s 9 yard line with 4 downs
    but for the first time in a remarkable performance could not finish

        This was the week McKay’s leaving got leaked out, the team lost the last 4 games of the season by a combined 21 points with Cal beating them by 14, and then McKay goes to Tampa Bay which he said was the dumbest thing he ever did

        I hope you are feeling better. I have been to Cal one time to see SC play Cal. Charlie White was the rb. Hate to say it but he ran over everyone. After the game, I saw him and he looked like he was higher than a kite. But i could be wrong. Wilcox had a probelm at SC being the dcordinator. Hoping he improves. Hoping that you improve. Take care.
