Caleb Williams sacked. The defense needs a stop. Can it make one?

USC ties it, 35-35, after Eric Gentry tips a pass that is intercepted by Christian Roland-Wallace.

Washington with 333 yards of offense. USC has 268.

It’s the turnovers that kill you in these type of games. Heck of a stat on Caleb Williams leading nation in fumbles since 2021.

USC retakes lead on flea flicker 41-yard TD pass to Tahj Washington.

USC looks ridiculous against the run. Its fundamentals are terrible. 21-21.

The two defenses are awful. USC 21, Washington 14.

Washington showing signs of doldrums that plagued it the past few weeks as it fails to protect punter and USC blocks it. Caleb Williams scores on a 1-yard run. USC 14, Washington 7.

Washington ties the game, 7-7, as the USC defense looks to be playing at its usual level.

USC drives right down the field and scores on a 2-yard run by Raleek Brown, who can play and still preserve his redshirt. Of course, if he can play now why was he on the scout team before?

Tailback MarShawn Lloyd is not dressed for the game. That’s big news. Lincoln Riley never said anything about it during the week. Austin Jones will be the primary back, apparently.

  1. I am getting really tired of the lack of openness in this program.

    With Clay Helton, I knew he was a nice guy and a complete idiot and expected nothing more. With Lincoln it is more of a personality problem. He is super sharp, but seems to have such a thin skin that he cant be open, cant admit problems and wont ever fix problems.

    In some ways I’m more frustrated with Lincoln.

  7. Agreed with what was being said about the positive culture change at USC in 2022 under Riley. Have been critical of Grinch this year, but seeing the same positivity this year. Marshawn Lloyd injured on the sidelines but encouraging his teammates. Touchdown Raleek Brown!

      2. Offense played well. They looked like the offense at the start of this year and last year. Defense is garbage. They couldn’t stop a good Pop Warner team. LR has got to be pulling his hair out right about now because he didn’t listen to the fans and everyone else and get rid of Grench. You have great athletes like Domani Jackson and Tackett Curtis who look confused out there….like they don’t know where they are supposed to be on every play.

  37. Would Lincoln Riley ever give his RB enough carries to be a difference maker? Jones only 11 carries for 127 yards, 11 yrd avg. Washington RB had 26 caries for 256 yards. Don’t see LR letting that happen

  38. At this point the Grinch hate is worthless. He will still show up for film tomorrow. It’s Lincoln Riley. He’s not a head coach. And truthfully his offense is predictable and without balance to control the game. We are Texas tech with a worse D coordinator. Where’s our AD? If Grinch isn’t fired then at least we know we are dealing with an expensive offensive coordinator and should take measures to correct. Where’s our AD?

  41. This was a great game for fans. Wrong team won but we had a puncher’s chance. Both defenses suck. No way washington wins it all. I would not be surprised if Oregon gets redemption.

  43. Frankly the other choice for head coach was Luke Fickell and his 2nd year @ WI is a miserable 5 – 4. Not excusing anything that we have had to endure under Riley and his bunkmate buddy Grinch just noting few there be that truly ascend to the top tier in any profession.

    We’re stuck with Lincoln Riley thanks to that $11+ million house in PVE he’s paying with his (what?) 10 yr coaching contract courtesy of USC.

    PC hired Norm Chow as his OC….Many a time the 4th estate, Scott Wolf in particular as well as Petros Papadakis, gleefully attempted to sow discord btwn the 2 but as good an OC that he was Norm Chow’s ceiling was as an assistant – no one remembers him now but everyone remembers PC for better or worse.

    PC went on to the NFL and more success because he was mature enough to 1. hire quality skilled assistants and 2. wasn’t intimidated if he couldn’t control them and had to share the glory. He was still the head coach.

    Grinch is gone and yes he should be gone tonight….let’s call it “Tarmac II!”

  44. Lincoln Riley is not the right coach for USC. We need a defense first guy who is a leader to survive the very physical Big 10 next year.. Riley, has no fire, and you can tell he has no control over the entire team.
    My prediction is he will resign at the end of the season rather than fire all of his assistants.
    Caleb Williams played an excellent game as did most of the offense. The offensive line is so so but still played hard. Sad Caleb played well enough to win, but with this defense it will be very difficult to win any of our remaining games. Our team looks disorganized, and confused there is no team concept.
    I now believe this is all on Lincoln Riley this defense is the worst I have ever seen, and it’s just not the players it’s the leadership. This speed defense does not work, and to be honest to me this Mike Leach Air Raid finesse offense should be thrown in the trash. The Air Raid Texas Tech style football produces 7 and 4, and 7 and 5 seasons just look at Mike Leach’s coaching record.
    Caleb will probably play the last two games…and then go train for the NFL draft. Both Oregon and UCLA look like losses you just cannot win a football game very often without a defense.
