A Name For Defensive Coordinator’s Search

If you missed my radio appearance with Petros Papadakis, I mentioned Kris Richard as a possible candidate for the defensive coordinator’s position.

Not because he is a former USC player but because he has a strong reputation as a coach with the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. He served as defensive coordinator with the Seahawks and Saints.

One possible issue for Lincoln Riley is that Richard is not a yes man. Riley’s never really had an assistant who isn’t a yes man. So I’m not sure how Riley would react if Richard questioned him during a coaches’ meeting.

    1. I’ve been telling you clowns for years that USC should hire Kris Richard, not as a coordinater, but as the head coach. Richard would never agree to work under Lincoln Riley, that’s an insult.

      Get rid of Riley and replace him with Kris Richard.

      USC has been lacking an identity since Pete Carroll left. Kiffin, Sarkisian, Helton and now Lincoln Riley have all been known as one dimensional and soft and that’s exactly what they have been.

      Let Taylor Mays and Sua Cravens assist with the defense for the remaining games, but forget about finding a defensive coordinator.

      USC needs to find a way out of this Lincoln Riley contract because he’s not going to work.

      Kris Richard would work as head coach.

      Jen Cohen knows Chris Petersen, she should reach out to him to guauge any interest he might have. Some of you here insist that Petersen is finished coaching, you don’t know that, you haven’t talked to him. He was finished up in Washington, but USC has been the job he’s always wanted, it would be worth reaching out to him, he’s an excellent coach who works to be great on offense as well as defense.

      Lincoln Riley definitley needs to go though, he was a bad fit from the get go. He took the job only for the money, he never bought into the program so just get rid of him.

      Better to address the overall problem now than to drag it out for a few more years, especially heading into the B1G.

      2. Taylor Mays is garbage. Pete Carroll had the opportunity to draft him but took the Earl Thomas dude from Texas. Compare their careers. Mays was what they call a “pile jumper.” Pretty self explanatory. Darnell Bing or the Ting brothers aren’t available?

      5. Taylor Mays wasn’t asked to play, he is being asked to assist.

        No one will know if Mays can coach or at least have some sort of positive impact mentoring the players until he gives it a shot so we shall see.

        The damage by Grinch has been done, giving a couple of former Trojan players a shot trying to fix his mess can’t hurt.

        I enter the gym(Washington & 7th) and ask for a fool named gotroy22. The sexy hot piece of pussy at the front counter directs me to a hunchback in a wheelchair. The relic has drool running off the chin and more wrinkles than a Shar Pei. gotroy22 put up two fists in a boxing position and says “Let’s fight”. I laugh my ass off for a good minute then give him a tissue to wipe the drool and $20 to get some food, He was obviously suffering from malnutrition.

    What type of defense will the interm coaches run? Will it be a 4-3, 5-2, 3-3-5 or other various designs? To make the defense more efficent at this late stage of the game, run either a basic 4-3 or 5-2. Stop the run on the preimeters. Guys will have to feel comfortable with what they are doing. Mays can help with the dbs’s schematics and fundementals. Play players that have earned it. We will see.

  5. What if they played different defensive players, changed and simplified the scheme, got a few sacks and a couple of turnovers, tackled better, managed to somewhat limit the Oregon offense, and won the game. Man, that would reflect poorly on Grinch and Reilly. The fanbase would erupt.
