USC Morning Buzz: To Watch Or Not To Watch Film

Linebacker Mason Cobb has been exemplary with the media this season.

His comment this week that he didn’t watch film of the Washington game drew a rebuke from former USC linebackers Su’a Cravens and Dion Bailey.

But my issue is a little different. Aren’t the defensive coaches making the players watch film? Brian Odom is the inside linebackers coach and co-interim defensive coordinator. Isn’t he the guy that should be demaning the linebackers watch film?

This is even more distressing because sources tell me Odom is really the lead guy running the defense even though he is sharing the coordinator role with Shaun Nua.

It’s going to go one of two ways at Autzen Stadium on Saturday: The defense will continue to look shambolic or maybe a streamlined approach will see a rejuvenated performance. In the meantime, the coaches should be showing the film and making players watch more when they get back to their apartments.

    Two ways of looking at this, Yes you can look at film and see what you did incorrectly, or get on the field and practice the defense that the will be used against oregon against the practice squad. I say get on the field and practice what the coaches want. That would give them more reps on defense. They need as many reps as possible to feel comfortable with the new d cordinators.
